New York NY, it was just another ordinary morning for Daniel Salvatore, a 66-year-old carpenter commuting from New Jersey to New York City, until his routine was shattered by a sudden and unprovoked attack at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on Monday morning.

As Salvatore sat against a brick wall, engrossed in a book while waiting for his colleague, he never anticipated the horror that awaited him. Out of nowhere, he was stabbed in the neck by an assailant who appeared from his blind side, turning his mundane commute into a fight for survival.

Recalling the harrowing ordeal, Salvatore described how he tried to flee from the knife-wielding attacker, only to be repeatedly stabbed. Miraculously, he managed to escape and seek refuge in a nearby Dunkin Donuts, where bystanders rushed to his aid and helped stem the bleeding before emergency medical services arrived.

Following the swift response of Port Authority police, Michael McCloskey, 42, was apprehended and charged with attempted murder, assault, and possession of a weapon. Salvatore, who received 46 stitches for his injuries, considers himself fortunate to have narrowly escaped a potentially fatal outcome, with the knife missing his carotid artery by mere inches.

Expressing gratitude for his survival, Salvatore credits divine intervention for sparing his life. He remains resolute in his determination to resume his daily commute, albeit with heightened vigilance, and hopes that his ordeal will prompt enhanced security measures to deter future acts of violence.

In response to the incident, a Port Authority spokesperson affirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public safety, noting increased police and civilian security staffing at the terminal. Collaborating closely with law enforcement partners, they reiterated their dedication to ensuring the safety of commuters and employees alike.

As Salvatore prepares to be discharged from the hospital, he remains undeterred in his resolve to return to his routine, albeit with a newfound appreciation for each day’s blessings and a renewed awareness of the need for vigilance in navigating the urban landscape.

  2. Michael McCloskey, eh? Sounds like a recent transplant from the deepest jungles of the Congo.

You gotta love people though. Divine intervention saved his life? Divine intervention could have prevented him from getting stabbed, maybe whisper in the crackhead attacker’s ear and dissuade him from getting his jab on, but … who am I to criticize divine intervention?

    1. McCloskey is an Irish surname which should be painfully obvious to even TRB’s most remedial students.
