Ridgewood NJ, NJ Senate Democrat Robert Menendez is in the hot seat again and this time his wife has also been indicted by a federal grand jury, according to court filings unsealed Friday, with prosecutors alleging” surprise ” the couple accepted lavish bribes in exchange for official acts.
Over the years the Senator has made many trips to the Village of Ridgewood .
The bribery offenses against Menendez stem from a yearslong public-corruption investigation by the Justice Department. The indictment unsealed Friday charges Menendez and his wife, Nadine Menendez, with three counts in connection to their relationship with three New Jersey businessmen.
‘It’s deja vu all over again’, (Yogi Berra ), this is the second set of corruption charges levied against Menendez by the Justice Department in a decade. He previously fought off conspiracy, bribery and honest services fraud related to alleged personal favors.
Menendez, now 69, and his wife face one count of conspiracy to commit bribery, conspiracy to commit honest services fraud and conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right. The three New Jersey associates, identified as Wael Hana, Jose Uribe and Fred Daibes, are also named as co-defendants and face two counts. Menendez and his co-defendants are expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan on Wednesday morning.
Fred Daibes, is an Edgewater developer largely responsible for the “gold coast” boom of high rises along the Hudson River in Bergen County and a bank founder with prior legal woes was one of five people indicted Friday in an alleged corruption scheme involving Senator Robert Menendez and his wife.
Daibes was indicted on multiple counts in 2018 for an alleged conspiracy to circumvent lending limits set by Mariner’s Bank, which he founded in 2001.
