Whether you’re heading to festive events, family gatherings, or holiday adventures, NJ TRANSIT has you covered with convenient options and special discounts.

Travel More, Spend Less

NJ TRANSIT’s SuperSaver Fare is perfect for family travel this December. Through 2:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, up to two children (11 and younger) can ride free with every fare-paying adult, making holiday travel more affordable for families.

Exclusive Holiday Promotions

Save on your trips with great deals in the NJ TRANSIT mobile app. Both new and existing customers can take advantage of:

Updated Holiday Schedules

To accommodate holiday travel, NJ TRANSIT has adjusted train, bus, and light rail schedules:

Tuesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve)

  • Early getaway trains will depart from Penn Station New York, Newark Penn, and Hoboken Terminal.
  • Most lines will follow a weekday or special holiday schedule.
  • Light Rail:
    • Newark Light Rail and River LINE will operate on Sunday schedules.
    • HBLR will follow a Saturday/Sunday/holiday schedule.

Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day)

  • Trains and buses will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule.
  • Select routes may have modifications—check njtransit.com for details.
  • Light Rail services will follow Sunday/holiday schedules.

December 26, 27, 30, and 31

  • Trains: Modified weekday schedules, with some peak-period cancellations and additional late-morning service on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines.
  • Buses: December 26 only, specific routes (58, 59, 65, 66, 102, and others) will follow holiday schedules. On December 27, 30, and 31, buses and light rail lines will operate on weekday schedules.
  • Select PABT Bus Routes: Increased service during late morning and early/late evening hours.

December 28 and 29

  • Trains and buses will operate on normal weekend schedules.

New Year’s Eve Service

December 31 (New Year’s Eve)

  • Modified weekday train schedules with extra evening service to New York and Hoboken.
  • After midnight, additional late-night trains will run on all lines (except the Atlantic City Line), with connections from major hubs like Newark Broad Street, Summit, and Long Branch.

January 1 (New Year’s Day)

  • After 6:30 a.m., trains will follow weekend/holiday schedules.
  • Most bus routes will operate on either Saturday or Sunday schedules.
  • Light Rail services will follow their respective holiday schedules.

Important Travel Tips

  • No beverages (alcoholic or otherwise) are allowed on NJ TRANSIT buses, regardless of the event.
