Newark NJ, NJ Transit police operation results in apprehensions for extensive vandalism to NJ TRANSIT equipment.

Earlier this week, a coordinated effort by the New Jersey Transit Police Department, Union Beach Police Department, and Sayreville Police Department yielded a significant outcome. Suspects wanted for substantial, large scale acts of criminal mischief (graffiti – rail car tagging) and trespassing were apprehended.

The coordinated, inter-agency effort included multiple detectives, uniformed, and plain clothes officers. We continually work closely with our partner agencies on both the state, local, and federal level to ensure your safety and the security of the NJ TRANSIT system. Anyone intending to bring harm to you or damage to the system should know that they will be caught and held accountable.

The Union Beach Police Department – Detective Bureau (Special Operations Branch) under the supervision of UBPD DSgt. Shawn Gilkison, SR. Detective Joseph Russo and Detective J.P. Powers in joint cooperation with the New Jersey Transit Police Department – Special Operations Bureau and Sayreville Police Department – Detective Bureau, arrested a 31 year old Keansburg man and a 34 year old Union Beach man this afternoon on multiple charge(s) of Criminal Mischief, Criminal Trespass, etc. It was revealed subsequent to an investigation, the latter knowingly created an extensive amount of damage to NJ Transit Authority equipment. The men were transported and charged at the New Jersey Transit Police Headquarters 1 Penn Plaza East in Newark, NJ.
