Clinic Vaccinates Nearly 1,000 NJ TRANSIT, NJDOT, Port Authority and New Jersey Turnpike Authority Employees in Single Day

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority teamed up with Walgreens today to expedite the effort to vaccinate employees during a large-scale vaccine clinic in Newark. The clinic had capacity to vaccinate nearly 1,000 employees of the agencies in a single day.
“Transportation workers at NJ TRANSIT, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, Port Authority and Department of Transportation are on the front lines every day serving and interacting with the public,” NJDOT Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said. “Partnering with Walgreen’s to provide our employees the ability to get vaccinated is another important step to keep our buses and trains running safely, and highways open and in good condition.”
“NJ TRANSIT is proud to partner with Walgreens to strengthen our efforts to make the vaccination as widely available as possible to our dedicated employees who have kept New Jersey moving since the onset of the pandemic,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett. “We’ve also partnered with University Hospital to offer vaccines to all NJ TRANSIT employees, and administered more than 1,000 vaccines to frontline, public-facing employees through clinics of our own. The vaccine adds yet another critical layer of protection to the many safety measures we’ve already put in place to protect the health and safety of our employees and customers.”
The vaccination clinic began at 9 a.m. at NJ TRANSIT’s Ferry St. building in Newark.
Walgreens staff administered the Pfizer vaccine, and employees scheduled their second appointments approximately three weeks from their first dose. Employees pre-registered for the clinic.
On March 15, all NJ TRANSIT employees became eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccinations under the State’s expanded eligibility requirements.
Throughout March, NJ TRANSIT was able to secure 1,300 first dose vaccines and 300 second doses provided by the New Jersey Department of Health that were administered to frontline, public-facing employees at clinics set up at NJ TRANSIT’s facilities in Maplewood and Camden.
A second large-scale employee vaccine clinic is planned for Saturday, April 3rd at the Ferry St. building in Newark.
