Ridgewood NJ, Ars Musica Chorale embarks on its 55th season on September 3, 2019, under the leadership of newly appointed Music Director, Brian Mummert, at The Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 7:30 pm. For those interested in joining Ars Musica Chorale, auditions will be held during the month of September, and again, later in the season.
Mummert holds a BA in Music from Yale University, where he served as the musical director of the Whiffenpoofs, America’s oldest collegiate a cappella group, for their Centennial year, and a Master of Music in Voice at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. In 2017 he completed a second Master of Music degree with Distinction in Choral Studies at the University of Cambridge, Trinity College, where he studied with several major British conductors. He is the founder and musical director of The New Consort, a professional solo-voice ensemble dedicated to the juxtaposition of music from diverse composers and repertoires.
Ridgewood NJ, The first will take place on Tuesday, June 25, 7:30 pm at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, NJ. The music to be performed will be Dido & Aeneas, an opera composed by Henry Purcell, and the George Frideric Handel Coronation Anthems.
The second will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 7:30 pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ridgewood, NJ. The music to be performed is Beethoven’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, and Messe Solennelle by Hector Berlioz.
Ridgewood NJ, Ars Musica Chorale concludes its 53 rd season with A Total Embrace: Bernstein at 100, a spectacular celebration of the music of Leonard Bernstein in his centennial year. The performance will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at West Side Presbyterian Church, Ridgewood, New Jersey.
Ars Musica will present a wide-ranging selection of the composer’s most popular works for chorus and orchestra, accompanied by the award-winning Adelphi Orchestra, together with our Encore Young Artist soloists and the New Jersey State Children’s Chorus. Our featured soloist will be Lauren Worsham, soprano and 2014 Tony Award Nominee.
RIDGEWOOD NJ,Conductor Gary Thor Wedow will coach a Master Class for Ars Musica Chorale’s Encore Young Artists on Wednesday, May 8th at Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place, Ridgewood, NJ, from 7:00-10:00 pm. Come enjoy an intimate performance of beautiful opera arias sung by our soloists.
The Master Class is open for attendance by all. We encourage avocational choir members, aspiring student singers, and music lovers to attend and enjoy a peek behind the curtain at some of NY and NJ’s most talented musicians. So bring your friends! Light refreshments will be served.
