Falcons Release Younghoe Koo, Ending an Era for the Ridgewood Native

Ridgewood NJ, the Atlanta Falcons have made a surprising move, announcing on Friday that they have released star placekicker Younghoe Koo. The news marks the end of a successful run for the former Ridgewood High School standout, who has been a staple for the franchise since 2019.

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood alum and former Ridgewood Maroons Kicker Younghoe Koo was named NFL special teams player of the month for December and January. This was Koo’s second player of the month honor. He joins Matt Ryan, Morten Andersen and Matt Bryant as Falcons to earn their respective awards twice. Koo converted all 12 of his field goal attempts over the last five Falcons games, including one from 50-plus yards and he hit the game-winner as time expired to beat the Arizona Cardinals

Ridgewood NJ, former Ridgewood High School star Younghoe Koo became one of the league’s top kickers during his three-year run with the Atlanta Falcons. Koo and the Falcons have agreed to terms on a five-year extension worth $24.25 million, $11.5 million of which is guaranteed. He is now the second-highest paid kicker in the National Football league, trailing only Baltimore Ravens’ Justin Tucker.
