TRENTON NJ, Legislation introduced in the New Jersey Senate would decimate the livelihoods of thousands of New Jerseyans who choose to work for themselves. Today, Fight For Freelancers NJ — a group of more than 1,000 independent contractors, creatives, and businesses — is launching a video series that will roll out in the upcoming weeks, educating lawmakers about the need to reject S863 and, instead, enact a modern labor law.

NJ Independent Contractors Say Bill Would Decimate Freelance Business

TRENTON NJ,  A group of independent contractors will attend the New Jersey Senate Labor Committee meeting in Trenton on Thursday, December 5, at 10 a.m. to voice opposition to two pending pieces of legislation–Senate bill S4204 and Assembly bill A5936–that threaten their ability to continue to work independently.  Representatives of Fight for Freelancers, an ad hoc Facebook group of more than 735 independent workers who fear their livelihoods will be destroyed by these bills, will be present and available for interviews.

Trenton NJ,  A bill that would codify into law existing regulations that protect the rights of workers against misclassification so the regulations can’t be ignored or discarded by future administrations will be amended to ensure the ability of independent contractors to continue to pursue their work under existing rules, Senate President Steve Sweeney said today.
