Division of Consumer Affairs Announce $640,000 Settlement with Defunct NJ Cosmetology School in Paramus

Paramus NJ, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division of Consumer Affairs (“the Division”) announced today that a now-defunct New Jersey cosmetology school and its related entities have agreed to pay nearly $640,000 – a majority of which will be used for consumer restitution – to resolve the State’s lawsuit alleging they defrauded students and engaged in substandard business practices that financially harmed students. In a separate settlement with the State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling (“the Board”), the school also agreed to surrender its licenses to operate in New Jersey.

NJ Attorney General Files lawsuit Claiming Capri Institute Defrauded Students

Paramus NJ, Acting Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced today that the State has filed a lawsuit against New Jersey cosmetology school Capri Institute and, in a separate action filed with the State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling (“the Board”), is also seeking the immediate suspension of the school’s licenses to operate in the state, amid allegations that the school defrauded students, engaged in substandard business practices that financially harmed students, and failed to meet regulations and curriculum requirements for cosmetology schools.

CAPRI Institute in Paramus Shuts Down Without Warning

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Paramus NJ, CAPRI Institute shut down without warning last week,  the institute has four campuses in central and northern New Jersey. The abrupt closure left students without a cosmetology license, out a lot of money and are wondering what to do  next.
