Ridgewood NJ, Early last year the Ridgewood Environmental Advisory Committee (REAC) decided to join numerous New Jersey municipalities and environmental organizations in opposing the widespread use of single-use plastic bags. In May 2018, at our request, the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce and Ridgewood Guild surveyed their members and asked if they would support or oppose reducing the use of plastic bags. We received four responses, none opposing a reduction.

An Open Letter from Kensington Senior Living to the Village of Ridgewood

kenningston

Dear Village of Ridgewood Community,

Kensington Senior Living recently presented a concept plan to the Ridgewood Village Council for a 95+/- room assisted living community to be built on the current site of Ridgewood Vehicle, Barry’s Ridgewood Auto Body and a single-family home (246, 256, and 264 South Broad Street).  Specifically, Kensington asked that the Village Council refer the project to the Village’s Planning Board in order to study the property to determine if it meets the criteria to be designated an Area in Need of Redevelopment. It is Kensington’s belief that the property meets several of the necessary criteria to be designated as an Area in Need of Redevelopment, including the fact that it is a non-conforming use and is likely environmentally contaminated.

Ridgewood Snow Emergency Reminders

Snow Blizzard of 2016 Ridgewood CBD

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, If it is snowing or going to snow overnight, please do not park your vehicles on the streets, in order to allow our plows to do their work in clearing the snow.  All sidewalks in residential districts must be cleared within 24 hours of the snow falling. Please do not place snow into the street; instead, place it back onto your own property.  In addition, if you have a fire hydrant on your property, please clear it of any snow accumulation.

Ridgewood NJ, Changes to Interim Permit Parking Spaces – Based on surveys done by the Ridgewood Police Department of the usage of the interim parking permit spaces, both during the day and into the evening, the Village will be restoring some of the interim parking spaces to 3-hour meters. The interim parking spaces being restored to meters are the spaces on Dayton Street by the park and the spaces on the one block of South Broad Street that has the dry cleaner and restaurants. This will provide additional parking for the holiday season for shoppers and diners.

Ridgewood NJ, The village council Wednesday night backed away from a series of parking rate hikes that are needed to fund the Hudson Street Parking garage. The council declined to introduce an ordinance that would raise on- and off-street hourly parking to $1.25 from $0.75 starting January 1st, 2020. Parking rate revenues are meant to fund both the currently under construction Hudson Street Garage and the village’s new smart parking meter program. Council members have been at odds for weeks about how many quarters visitors should pony up to park in the central business district.

Christmas Tree Village of Ridgewood

the staff of the Ridgewood Blog

Ridgewood NJ, Mark your calendars for the annual traditional Ridgewood Tree Lighting Celebration.

But first Ridgewood Needs a tree. The village doesn’t have a Christmas tree., and not just any tree. Ridgewood’s Christmas tree is typically 50 to 75 feet tall. It usually comes from somewhere in the greater Ridgewood area. Downes Tree Service has offered to cut, transport, place and trim the tree for free. The tree will even get a police escort to its home at the end of East Ridgewood Avenue.
