Ridgewood NJ, according to the NJ Attorney General, New Jersey experiences a disproportionate number of pedestrian injury crashes and fatalities compared to the nation as a whole. To combat the problem, the Division of Highway Traffic Safety assists local and county agencies in the development of comprehensive pedestrian safety programs involving Education, Enforcement, and Engineering.

The Education component of the pedestrian program involves getting the pedestrian safety message to all members of the community, with a special emphasis on three high-risk groups: children, senior citizens and non-English speaking residents.

Ridgewood NJ, when it come to parking its all about the data . Recently the council has once again moved to reconfigure the parking in the Central Business District .

The Council has altered rates, times , who can park where and for how long. Yet with each change comes a whole new set of problems . We went from too much employee parking to not enough, too little commuter parking to too much back to too little then too much again. Every change seems to present itself with a whole new set of issues .

Ridgewood High Density Development has Its Consequences

Ridgewood NJ, Simply stated , every action has a reaction. You act, and there are reactions. Your actions have reactions or consequences because you, as every human being, don’t live in a void.

There seems to be many of residents that are unhappy with many of the current spending proposals by the Village Council .

The sad fact remains that once the building of 4 high density housing proposals, were approved during the “Reign of Terror ” or the Paul Aronsohn regime ,a lot of new spending is now required .

The Village is going to have a much higher density , congestion and kids in schools .

Because of the “high density housing projects in the CBD :

Parking needs to be increased, water infrastructure needs to be improved roads and signals need to be improved ,school construction, public safety and emergency services need to be expanded .

This is required ,its not vanity ,like the “traffic easing” or “suicide bike lanes” . Many, many Village Councils into the future will be dealing with theses same issues.

“Smart Meters “Are Coming to a Town Near You

Ridgewood NJ, you think parking is difficult in Central Business District now, just wait. A bill is now before the Senate to make “smart meters”  which are now part of a pilot program in Palisades Park legal throughout the Garden State.

The “smart meters” work by snapping a picture of the license plate and the car after their meter runs out. Weeks later, a ticket is delivered to their front door.”We now can free up traffic officers time to do other stuff like drink coffee talk on their cell phones while driving and visit dunkin donuts ” , just kidding guys .

Officials say the parking meters will become a tool for law enforcement. With cameras on the back and front, the meters could be able to pull video evidence should something happen on the sidewalk or street. No need to hire up Police and those costly benefit packages .

Palisades Park officials say there’s an increase in parking tickets because of the 30 meters they have installed.

Controversial Wall in Front of , “It’s Greek to Me Removed”

Ridgewood NJ, after years of acrimony the controversial wall in front of the “It’s Greek to Me” restaurant at 21 East Ridgewood Avenue was demolished on Friday morning.

While some felt “the wall” created a nice dinning area for the restaurant, critics saw favoritism and a side walk impediment for pedestrians and fire fighters.

Two (2) construction workers used a concrete cutting saw, sledgehammer, and other assorted tools to demolish and remove the barrier .

It is believed the “wall” was removed because it would have been non-compliant with the Village’s new sidewalk cafe/dining ordinance. The restaurant’s owner, Paul Vagianos, was on the scene to witness the process.

Whole Foods Wage Increase Leads to Shorter Hours

whole_foods_theridgewoodblog

Ridgewood NJ, something for New Jersey low wage workers to look forward too. In response to public pressure and increasing scrutiny over the pay of its warehouse workers, Amazon enacted a $15 minimum wage for all its employees on 1 November, including workers at grocery chain Whole Foods which it purchased in 2017.

All Whole Foods employees paid less than $15 an hour saw their wages increase to at least that, while all other team members received a $1-an-hour wage increase and team leaders received a $2-an-hour increase.

But since the wage increase, Whole Food employees have told the UK Guardian that they have experienced widespread cuts that have reduced schedule shifts across many stores, often negating wage gains for employees.

“My hours went from 30 to 20 a week,” said one Whole Foods employee in Illinois.

Wells Fargo Consumer Redress Review Program

Ridgewood NJ, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced today that Wells Fargo has begun a consumer redress review program through which customers who have not already been made whole through other remediation programs can seek to have their inquiry or complaint reviewed by a Wells Fargo escalation team for possible relief.

The consumer redress review program was a key component of Wells Fargo’s overall $535 million settlement with New Jersey, 49 other states and the District of Columbia in 2018 to resolve claims that the bank violated state consumer protection laws through multiple unlawful actions.

Those actions included (1) opening millions of unauthorized accounts and enrolling customers into online banking services without their knowledge or consent, (2) improperly referring customers for enrollment in third-party renters and life insurance policies, (3) improperly charging auto loan customers for force-placed and unnecessary collateral protection insurance, (4) failing to ensure that customers received refunds of unearned premiums on certain optional auto finance guaranteed asset/auto protection (GAP) products, and (5) incorrectly charging customers for mortgage rate lock extension fees.
