Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Arts Foundation Honors were held on Sunday, January 29, 2017, 4-6pm, at Fish Restaurant in Ridgewood. Honorees for this inaugural event are Parlance Chamber Concerts and Art of Motion, two iconic Ridgewood performing arts organizations.

The event was hosted by former deputy mayor Albert Pucciarelli, now president of the Ridgewood Arts Foundation. Pucciarelli opened the evening by acknowledging those in attendance, including members of the Board of Education, council members and you guessed it former mayor Paul Aronsohn.

The Ridgewood Arts Foundation, a public charitable 501(c)(3) foundation, was created to provide funding for the many worthy artistic endeavors within our village, to encourage the further development of the arts in our community, and to establish a scholarship fund for art students from Ridgewood.

ART OF MOTION IN RIDGEWOOD HOSTS ASHTANGA YOGA MASTER CLASS TO BENEFIT NEPAL
May 26,2015

RIDGEWOOD, NJ , On May 30th, 2015, a Master Class will be taught by Annie Hickman at Art of Motion in Ridgewood, NJ from 2:00-4:00 PM.  This Ashtanga Yoga Workshop will introduce an athletic style of classical Indian yoga as taught by the lake Srik Pattabhi Jois.

After dedicating herself to a daily practice of Ashtanga yoga for the past ten years, Annie Hickman, a certified yoga teacher, followed her dream this year to study in Mysore, India. Annie just returned from her 5-month yoga tour through Nepal and India, and she is eager to share the power of Ashtanga Yoga.

Annie will guide students through the Primary Series of Ashtanga – a challenging flow class with therapeutic yoga poses that strengthen and transform the body. This master class will encourage students to experience a higher level in their practice.

All $25.00 donations will benefit relief services in Nepal. All are welcome to practice and/or observe. For information and to reserve a spot, please contact Art of Motion.

Art of Motion is located at The Performing Arts Building, 17 Chestnut Street, 2nd Floor, Ridgewood, NJ.

Dancers from Ridgewood arts center to perform in Washington, D.C.

SEPTEMBER 5, 2014    LAST UPDATED: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2014, 12:31 AM
BY BETSY MURPHY
CORRESPONDENT

Lynn Needle made a lasting impression on Stacy Lu. As a young mom, Lu took pilates and yoga from Needle at Art of Motion, a professional arts center, professional studio school and home of Art Of Motion Dance Theater, run by founder, Needle, and co-artistic director, Olivia Galgano. When her twin daughters, Sonya and Isobel, were 4, Lu enrolled them in terpsichord class at the studio. That was 2008. Skip to 2014. Lu, a freelance writer for The New York Times, moved to Washington, D.C. where she is a contributing editor for TEDMED, a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually at an annual conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converge, covering topics from science to business to global issues. Health and medical edition of TEDTalks, TEDMED, begun in 1984, convenes extraordinary people and ideas from all disciplines inside and outside of medicine, resulting in unexpected connections that accelerate innovation in health and medicine.

A couple of months ago, Lu made a call to Needle. “We’re looking for a company to perform at the Kennedy Center on Sept. 10 to 12 and I wondered about your availability,” she told her. “A jaw dropping moment,” says Needle. “A lightning bolt of excitement went through the studio.” In awe of the offer, “it was stop, drop and roll,” says Needle. “The administrative tasks were daunting and exciting. We had to decide what to present.”

She adds, “they realized we are teachers as well as dancers.”

Thrilled to be presented at the Kennedy Center, Galgano says, “We try to engage and support the community through the performing arts and to be invited to perform there strengthens our outreach in aiding our society as well as performing – two of our missions. It’s very prestigious.” They later learned 1600 groups were nominated; 52 chosen.
