
Golf shoes have an unusual job. They need to be comfortable enough for several hours of walking but secure enough to handle the rotational forces of a full swing.
That combination becomes harder to get right when you have wide feet.
A golfer can tolerate a slightly tight shoe while hitting a bucket of balls. Eighteen holes are different. Research tracking golfers over a full round recorded an average of 11,948 steps, with considerable variation between players. A more recent study of competitive golfers recorded roughly 17,000 steps when players walked an 18-hole championship course.
