Trenton NJ, At Public Hearings Yesterday, Not a Single Person Testified in Support. Following a massive display of opposition to a proposed constitutional amendment at public hearings yesterday, Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean and Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick urged the Democratic legislative leadership to remove the partisan gerrymandering scheme from the voting agendas of the Senate and General Assembly on Monday.

Sen. Tom Kean and Asm. Jon Bramnick urged the Democratic legislative leadership to stop planned votes on a partisan gerrymandering scheme following unanimous opposition at public hearings yesterday. (SenateNJ.com)

ā€œIt would be an act of utter hubris for the Democratic majorities to forge ahead with the constitutional amendment in defiance of such clear public opposition,ā€ said Kean (R-Union). ā€œThey should demonstrate that they’ve heard the massive outcry and do the right thing by cancelling Monday’s planned votes on this partisan gerrymandering scheme.ā€

At simultaneous hearings in the Senate State Government Committee and Assembly Judiciary Committee, more than 140 people testified in opposition to SCR-43/SCR-152 and ACR-205. Not a single person testified in support of the proposal at either hearing.

Bramnick urged the Senate President and Assembly Speaker to demonstrate they have heard the concerns of the people by cancelling the votes planned for Monday in both chambers.

ā€œWhen progressive groups and Republicans come together to oppose a bill, you know it must be a bad concept,ā€ said Bramnick (R-Union). ā€œThe majority just wants to keep power for the rest of the century in New Jersey, but that is not how democracy works.ā€

Village Negotiates A Realistic Affordable Housing Plan

Sealfons-rendering

Ridgewood NJ, the Village of Ridgewood has negotiated a pending settlement that outlines what the village’s obligation is, in terms of units of Affordable Housing of 55 instead of 838 ,Ā  all to have been located in the Central Business District.

Wanting immunity from potential developers’ lawsuits, the village is proposing to increase the density of some zones and to create a redevelopment plan for The Valley Hospital site.

Instead of the courts forcing 838 units on the Village of Ridgewood , the Village will adopt a new amended zoning with redevelopment in mind, creating affordable housing opportunities.

This means that increasing the permitted density in the B1 and B2 downtown districts by six to 18 units per acre and North Maple/Goffle Avenue B2 districts to permit 12 and 20 units per acre. In addition, an AH3 district will be created with graduated 14 to 18 units per acre density near Racetrack Road and Route 17.

There will also be a mandatory set-aside ordinance for incoming development to include 20 percent affordable units if the project obtains a use variance. All these increased densities are far lower than the high density housing the Aronsohn Administration agreed to for the Central Business District.Ā

Existing Affordable Housing

Ridgecrest Apartments – 12 units
Woodside Gardens – 4 units
Broadway Condominiums – 4 units

Approved development projects

KS Broad – 9 off-site affordable (provided at Enclave), 60 market-rate units
The Enclave – 6 affordable, 39 market-rate units
Ridgewood Dayton – 14 affordable, 93 total units
Two Forty/Chestnut Village – 7 affordable, 43 total units ( this is being disputed by owner )

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean : Democrats’ Redistricting Amendment About Cementing Their Control, Limiting Voter Choice

communism2

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Trenton NJ, Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean said a constitutional amendment (SCR-43) being fast-tracked by Democrats is designed to make legislative elections less competitive while cementing permanent Democratic majorities in the New Jersey Legislature.

ā€œThe constitutional amendment proposed by New Jersey Democrats is not about making our elections fairer or legislative districts more competitive,ā€ said Kean. ā€œThis sham of an amendment is about power. It’s about Democrats who have controlled the Legislature for nearly two decades trying to cement their power by permanently rigging the election process in their favor.ā€
Democrats first attempted to pass the amendment, then SCR-188/ACR-4, in late 2015 and early 2016.

People keep voting with the idea of compassion but the ā€˜idea’ of compassion doesn’t rest in the minds and hearts of those who will take advantage of the good hard working American citizens. They won’t wise up and their children and grandchildren will suffer for it….we are not on a good path when we allow anyone who wants to be here to be here just because they are more disadvantaged or have a sad story. Many American citizens have a sad story and we should be making sure they are taken care of first and foremost and those who enter legally are welcome. If we didn’t give unearned benefits to those who just touched our border illegally five minutes ago, we could take care of our poor, disabled, elderly and veterans. What a concept?

Trenton NJ,Ā Attorney General’s Office runs cover for Murphy Administration and Hudson prosecutors office dropping the ball on Alvarez rape allegations.

Statement of Communications Director Sharon Lauchaire :

The Attorney General’s Office has well-established procedures for addressing conflict-of-interest issues involving County Prosecutor’s Offices. These procedures apply not only to cases involving actual conflicts of interest, but also to those involving perceived or potential conflicts. Generally speaking, if a County Prosecutor believes that there is or may be a conflict of interest in a particular criminal matter, he or she may request that the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) ā€œsupersedeā€ – or assume responsibility for – that matter. If DCJ agrees to supersede, then DCJ either handles the case itself or assigns it to another County Prosecutor’s Office.
