Multi-vehicle Crash on Lincoln Avenue in Hawthorne Sends 3 to Local Area Hospitals

Hawthorne NJ, at least three (3) individuals were transported to local area hospitals following a multi-vehicle crash in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue, Hawthorne on Tuesday afternoon, 11/23. Hawthorne Police, and Hawthorne Fire Department Company #4 responded to the incident along with mutual aid BLS units from The Valley Hospital. Glen Rock Police officers assisted with traffic control. Two (2) vehicles sustained heavy crash related damage; a third vehicle may have been removed from the scene on its own power. Hawthorne Auto Body removed the wrecked cars. A crash related fluid spill was attended to by firefighters from Hawthorne Fire Department.

Garbage Truck Slams Into Tree In Hawthorne

Hawthorne NJ, a tandem axle garbage truck smashed into several trees in the 400 block of Goffle Hill Road, Hawthorne on Tuesday morning, 10/19. Witnesses reported that the truck’s driver appeared to have experienced a medical episode and lost control of the vehicle as it came down a steep hill. Police at the scene provided no information regarding any injuries sustained by driver, nor any passengers who might have been on board. A heavy duty tow truck removed the damaged vehicle from the wooded area. Hawthorne Fire Department personnel attended to a crash related fluid spill. Hawthorne Police provided traffic control and processed the accident report.

Minivan Strikes House in Hawthorne

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne Fire Department responded to a “reported car into house” 911 telephone call on Friday morning, 07/30, in the 0-100 block of Highview Terrace, Hawthorne. No injuries were reported by the vehicle’s sole occupant, an adult driver, nor any of the structure’s occupants. Damage to the structure was moderate; members of Hawthorne Fire Department Rescue 5 used lumber to temporarily shore up the affected area. The minivan involved in the crash did not appear to have sustained damage that would have prevented in from being driven.

Hawthorne Rollover Cash Results in No Injuries

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Police issued at least one (1) summons in connection with a two (2) vehicle rollover crash at the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Van Winkle Avenue, Hawthorne on Tuesday morning, 12/29. No injuries were reported in the incident. Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne Fire Department personnel responded. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by flatbed tow trucks.

Route 208 northbound Crash in Hawthorne Sends One to the Hospital

Hawthorne NJ, One (1) driver involved in a Monday afternoon, 06/08, two (2) vehicle rollover crash on Route 208 northbound in Hawthorne sustained a non-life threatening injury and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Hawthorne Police, Hawthorne Fire Department, and Hawthorne EMS responded to the incident. Glen Rock Police assisted with traffic control. Northbound Route 208 was closed for approximately 30 minutes between Utter Avenue and Goffle Road, Hawthorne while emergency crews and tow truck operators worked to right and remove the vehicle from the highway.

Hawthorne Police take two into custody after vehicle crashes into a restaurant on Lincoln Avenue

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Police took two (2) individuals into custody for possession of a controlled dangerous substance after a passenger vehicle crashed into a restaurant at 112 Lincoln Avenue, Hawthorne, on Tuesday afternoon, 02/11, Hawthorne Fire and Hawthorne EMS also responded to the incident, along with a paramedic team from a nearby hospital. Two (2) individuals, believed to be the vehicle’s occupants, were transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with non disclosed injuries. The restaurant sustained heavy structural damage; the wrecked vehicle was towed from the scene. No one in the restaurant was injured in the incident.

Hawthorne Police and Fire Respond To Sunday Evening Rollover

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne Fire Department Company #4 responded to an early Sunday evening, 12/15, rollover crash near 26 Lincoln Street, Hawthorne. The vehicle’s sole occupant, its adult female driver, self-extricated prior to the arrival of emergency responders and refused medical aid. A flatbed tow truck righted the Jeep SUV and towed it from the scene along with the parked Audi that it landed against. Police at the scene did not say whether any summonses would be issued.

Hawthorne NJ, A Friday morning, 11/08, multiple alarm fire in Hawthorne was quickly contained and brought under control, but not before it heavily damaged a single-story industrial building located at 70 Fifth Avenue. Hawthorne Fire Department personnel were assisted at the scene by fire departments from several neighboring communities. Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne EMS personnel also responded.

Glen Rock Firefighter Falls Through the floor at Vacant House Fire

Glen Rock NJ, On Wednesday, October 2nd at approximately 10:45 pm the Glen Rock Fire Department was dispatched to 154 Greenway Road for a report of smoke coming from the 2nd floor of a vacant house. Chief Aguliar and Assistant Chief Jennings arrived on the scene and found a working fire on the 1st floor of the structure. Engine 831 took a hydrant laying in, stretched a 1 3/4″ attack line, and made entry to find visible fire coming through the floor. Knocking down the fire they attempted to locate the basement stairs to check for fire in the basement. The officer of 831 sounding the floor in front of the hose line suddenly fell through the 1st floor into the basement. He declared a mayday and was able to self-extricate himself out of the basement and exited with the hose crew outside of the structure clearing the mayday. Ladder 832 and a Ridgewood engine company were able to stretch the 2nd line to the basement and confirm the fire was contained/extinguished to the floor between the basement and the 1st floor. Mutual companies assisted in primary and secondary searches as well as an overhaul.

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne Fire Deartment responded to a single family home at 3 Mary Street, Hawthorne on Friday morning, 06/21 to assess damage caused by a falling tree. No injuries were reported by the home’s occupants and structural damage was classified as moderate. Members of Hawthorne Fire Tower 2, Engine 3, and Rescue 5 operated at the scene.

Hawthorne NJ, A small bobcat front end loader being used to remove snow from a pedestrian bridge over Route 208 in Hawthorne fell through the concrete bridge surface onto the highway below on Monday morning, 03/04. The operator of the front end loader, a Borough of Hawthorne employee, and an occupant of a work van traveling on the highway were both seriously injured in the mishap. Route 208 northbound was closed indefinitely between Utter Avenue and Goffle Road in Hawthorne, Hawthorne Police , EMS and Fire Department units responded and were assisted by Glen Rock PD, and Wyckoff Fire Department. NJDOT representatives were also at the scene.

Glen Rock NJ,A Thursday evening, 12/06, basement fire in a single family home located at 562 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, injured at least one (1) firefighter and required the services of several neighboring fire departments to extinguish. Glen Rock Fire Department was assisted by personnel from Ridgewood Fire Department  , Fair Lawn Fire Department , and Hawthorne Fire Department at the scene. Glen Rock Police and Glen Rock EMS also responded. The cause and exact origin of the blaze is currently under investigation.

Hawthorne Police Cruiser Involved in Collision on Diamond Bridge Avenue and Goffle Road

Hawthorne NJ, A two (2) vehicle Saturday afternoon, 12/01, crash involving a marked Hawthorne Police Department vehicle resulted in the drivers of both vehicles being transported to local hospitals by ambulances. The collision occurred at the intersection of Diamond Bridge Avenue and Goffle Road shortly before 2 PM and sent one (1) of the vehicles down an embankment into a section of the nearby Goffle Brook County Park. Hawthorne EMS and Hawthorne Fire Department also responded to the incident. Both wrecked vehicles were removed from the scene by flatbed tow trucks. Unofficial reports are that the injuries to both the police officer and other driver were non life threatening in nature. A utility pole was also damaged in the crash; a PSE&G was on the scene minutes after the impact evaluating its condition.

Chemical Spill Reported at Glen Rock Police Headquarters

Glen Rock NJ, Glen Rock Fire Department and Hawthorne Fire Department  personnel rushed to Glen Rock Police Department headquarters, 1 Harding Plaza, Glen Rock on Thursday afternoon, 10/11, in response to a possible chemical spill within the building. Firefighters dressed in protective gear entered the building and removed at least two (2) containers of an unknown substance(s) found in a mechanical room. Glen Rock Police Lieutenant Frank Riggio stated that there were no injuries reported in the incident. He also said that it appeared as if one or more of the containers found by firefighters may have been leaking, causing the odor which triggered a phone call for Fire Department assistance.

High School Football Game Unaffected by Chlorine Gas Leak at a Fair Lawn Water Department Water Department

Fair Lawn NJ, Fair Lawn Fire department and Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue units were dispatched to investigate a significant leak involving two (2) large steel cylinders containing chlorine gas at a Fair Lawn Water Department water treatment facility late Saturday morning, 09/15. Bergen County HazMat, Hawthorne Fire Department, and an ambulance from Saddle Brook were also on the scene at 9-14 Cadmus Place, Fair Lawn until the leak was contained. No injuries were reported, nor were there any evacuations ordered of area homes. A high school football game being played directly across the street from the plant was also unaffected by the gas release.
