Ridgewood NJ, State of New Jersey Department of Homeland Security issues a Ramadan warning and repeat there are no known or credible threats to New Jersey in relation to ISIS at this time.

On May 25, ISIS released a video calling on supporters to conduct assaults and justified the killing of innocents during Ramadan, the most sacred month in Islam, which runs from May 27 to June 24. Historically, ISIS and its predecessor groups have called for an offensive campaign during this month.

The recent message encourages targeting civilians in the West, claiming that their deaths would serve as retribution for casualties in Muslim-majority countries. In 2015 and 2016, the group’s now-deceased spokesman, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, urged followers to escalate attacks during Ramadan, encouraging those unable to travel to Iraq and Syria to conduct operations in the West—“The smallest action you do in the heart of their land is dearer to us than the largest action by us.”

Since 2006, ISIS and its predecessor group, al-Qa’ida in Iraq, have engaged in Ramadan campaigns, marked by complex coordinated operations in multiple countries throughout the month. In 2016, the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando and a bombing in Baghdad, killing 49 and 323 respectively, occurred during Ramadan. In 2015, attacks conducted within hours of each other targeted tourists at a Tunisian beach resort, killing 38, and worshipers at a Shia mosque in Kuwait, resulting in 27 fatalities.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and engage in increased religious observance. Traditionally, Muslims gather at mosques for evening feasts, known as Iftar, and nightly prayers. The month concludes with a three-day holiday, Eid al-Fitr, during which prayers and celebrations will be held at mosques, high schools, and parks throughout New Jersey.

There are no known or credible threats to New Jersey in relation to ISIS’s statement.NJOHSP encourages residents to report suspicious activity to local law enforcement and by calling 1-866-4-SAFE-NJ or by emailing tips@njohsp.gov.

Huma Abedin worked at a radical Muslim journal for 10 years

Hillary Clinton’s top campaign aide, and the woman who might be the future White House chief of staff to the first female US president, for a decade edited a radical Muslim publication that opposed women’s rights and blamed the US for 9/11.

One of Clinton’s biggest accomplishments listed on her campaign Web site is her support for the UN women’s conference in Bejing in 1995, when she famously declared, “Women’s rights are human rights.” Her speech has emerged as a focal point of her campaign, featured prominently in last month’s Morgan Freeman-narrated convention video introducing her as the Democratic nominee.

However, soon after that “historic and transformational” 1995 event, as Clinton recently described it, her top aide Huma Abedin published articles in a Saudi journal taking Clinton’s feminist platform apart, piece by piece. At the time, Abedin was assistant editor of the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs working under her mother, who remains editor-in-chief. She was also working in the White House as an intern for then-First Lady Clinton.

Showdown over iPhone reignites the debate around privacy

By Todd C. Frankel and Ellen Nakashima February 19 at 11:32 PM

The Justice Department calculated that it held a winning hand — the passcode-locked Apple iPhone of a terrorist — when it went to a federal court in Riverside, Calif.

Not only did the agency want Apple to build special software to help the FBI crack open the phone, but the government also knew the order would be made public.

After a mass killing that provoked national outrage, the government hoped to win support far outside the courtroom in its bid to gain access to encrypted phones in criminal and terrorism cases.

“They picked this case to increase the chances of getting public opinion on their side,” said a former federal prosecutor.

Now, a single iPhone has reignited a broad debate about government surveillance and the needs of law enforcement vs. the need for privacy. The showdown escalated Friday with the Justice Department accusing Apple of putting its “brand marketing” ahead of the law. The stakes have soared, well beyond the fate of any particular iPhone.

San Bernardino CA, In a report from KABC in Los Angeles, a neighbor of the Muslim terror suspect in Redlands, California, says that other neighbors were suspicious of the Middle Eastern men and their activities, but didn’t do anything out of it for fear of “profiling” them.

Hours after the attack, authorities followed a tip to the home on Center Street in Redlands. As Police officers approached, the two suspects fled in a dark SUV. A police chase ensued, ending back in San Bernardino, where the two suspects — one male and one female — were killed in the gun battle with police.

Police report that both suspects were armed with assault rifles and handguns and a third person who fled from the shooting scene was detained after an extensive search but It was not immediately clear if that person was involved in the Inland Regional Center shooting.

Neighbors in Redlands expressed shock that the suspects had ties to their area. KABC also reported that a man who has been working in the area said he noticed a half-dozen Middle Eastern men in the area in recent weeks, but decided not to report anything since he did not wish to racially profile those people.

Ridgewood NJ, Earlier this month Rep Scott Garrett meet with 9/11 activist Jon Stewart to discuss the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, created to help fist responders and survivors of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Garrett had remarked on 9/11 ,” It has been 14 years since a horrific Tuesday morning in September forever changed the lives of every American. While the scars will always remain, we will never forget.

We will never forget those we lost. We will never forget those who ran into danger to help their fellow man and woman. We will never forget that evil forces still conspire to destroy our very way of life. And we will never forget those who sacrifice everything to defend our freedom.”

Garrett went on , “In the midst of chaos, in our hour of need, brave first responders saw the horrors of the September 11th terrorist attacks unfold before them, and they ran toward the danger to help their fellow man and woman. Today, they need us, and I’m proud to once again extend my gratitude to these heroes by urging my colleagues to support the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

Thanks to Jon Stewart, a longtime advocate for this cause, my Congressional colleagues, and the 9/11 first responders who came to Washington, D.C. today to spread the word about this important legislation.

New Jersey Mall Targeted in latest Terror Threat

Al-Shabaab calls for attacks on Oxford Street and Westfield centres in new terror threat

Somalia-based terror group releases video threatening some of the world’s busiest shopping areas

By Tom Whitehead, and Peter Foster

6:38PM GMT 22 Feb 2015

Islamist terrorists have called for attacks on London’s Oxford Street and the Westfield shopping centres in the latest jihadist threat to the UK.

A video released by the Somalia-based fanatics al-Shabaab called on its followers to “hasten to heaven” by attacking some of the country’s busiest shopping areas.

It also threatened venues in America and Canada as well as “Jewish-owned” centres.

Counter-terrorism police in the UK were assessing the video while the head of US homeland security warned shoppers to be “particularly careful”.

The video, which lasts more than an hour and was released over the weekend, centred on the fall out from al-Shabaab’s attack on the Westgate shopping centre in Kenya in 2013 that left 62 people dead and more than 100 injured.

Islamic State threat ‘beyond anything we’ve seen’: Pentagon

Lessons not learned from 9/11

Media and Politicians down played threat
By Missy Ryan
WASHINGTON Thu Aug 21, 2014 5:47pm EDT

(Reuters) – The sophistication, wealth and military might of Islamic State militants represent a major threat to the United States that may surpass that once posed by al Qaeda, U.S. military leaders said on Thursday.

“They are an imminent threat to every interest we have, whether it’s in Iraq or anywhere else,” Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told reporters at the Pentagon.

Hagel’s assessment of Islamic State, which gained strength during Syria’s civil war and swept into northern Iraq earlier this summer, sounded a note of alarm several days after the group posted a video on social media showing one of its fighters beheading an American hostage kidnapped in Syria.

Asked if the hardline Sunni Muslim organization posed a threat to the United States comparable to that of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Hagel said it was “as sophisticated and well-funded as any group we have seen.”

“They are beyond just a terrorist group. They marry ideology, a sophistication of … military prowess. They are tremendously well-funded. This is beyond anything we’ve seen.”

Hagel spoke as the United States continued attacking Islamic State targets in Iraq. In the past two weeks, U.S. drones and fighter jets have conducted 89 airstrikes against militant targets in northern Iraq.
