ALLENDALE, NJ – The Borough of Allendale and the wider Bergen County conservation community are mourning the loss of a true environmental pioneer. Lillian “Sis” Thomas (née Myer), who partnered with her late husband, Stiles Thomas, to create and preserve the cherished Celery Farm Natural Area, passed away on November 28, 2025, at the age of 101.

Lorrimer Sanctuary in Franklin Lakes Receives a $1 million gift from the Winifred M. and George P. Pitkin Foundation

Franklin Lakes NJ, the Lorrimer Sanctuary received a $1 million gift from the Winifred M. and George P. Pitkin Foundation to support a major renovation at the facility. The gift will help finance a $3 million new educational center and is among the largest in New Jersey Audubon’s history.
