Veterans of Foreign Wars Requests a Special Prosecutor to Investigate the Deaths of over 190 veterans Under Murphy Administration Care

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is not surprised by the recent reporting of malfeasance by the previous management of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. We have been trying to get the Governors attention on this matter since April, and as far back as June 2018, have repeatedly expressed concerns that Governor Murphy’s budget cuts, along with his failure to fill the New Jersey Veterans’ Memorial Home Advisory Council vacancies, would impact the health and wellbeing of veterans. Our concerns to the Governor’s Office and Adjutant General fell on deaf ears and over 190 veterans under state care died as a result.

Change in Leadership at the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Comes late for the 190 who Died in state’s Veterans’ Homes

Paramus NJ, Governor Phil Murphy today announced a leadership transition at the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMAVA). Effective immediately, current DMAVA Deputy Adjutant General, Colonel Dr. Lisa J. Hou, D.O., will become Interim Adjutant General and Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, replacing Major General Jemal J. Beale.

A Little Late: Pascrell & Gottheimer Demand Resignation of Paramus Veterans Home CEO

According to the latest New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs data, 80 residents and one staffer have died from COVID-19.

Paramus NJ, U.S. Reps. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05) today demanded the resignation of Matthew Schottlander, Chief Executive Officer of the state-run New Jersey Veterans Home in Paramus, New Jersey. The tragedy at Paramus resulted in the deaths of dozens of residents and an employee, and the endangerment of many more. Since April, the two congressmen have monitored the crisis closely, and responded by requesting investigations, seeking support, and delivering assistance to the home.

Active Shooter Seminar at Paramus Veterans Facility

Paramus N J, NJOHSP and the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs completed a seminar for the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home on February 5. The seminar focused on response and recovery operations to prepare residents, administrators, staff, vendors, and visitors in the event a hostile intruder with weapons enters the nursing home facility.
