Newark NJ, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin, the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ), and the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) today announced the indictment of an ex-caseworker for the New Jersey Department of Children and Family Services’ Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP), for his alleged sexual abuse of two children.

NJ Attorney General: “investigations revealed deeply troubling conduct and systemic problems within the New Jersey State Police”

Trenton NJ, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin today announced a slate of recommended reforms to be implemented by the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) following the completion of two separate investigations into the NJSP. Attorney General Platkin has directed that all of the recommendations set forth in both reports, as well as additional reforms identified by his Office, be accepted and implemented by the NJSP. Colonel Patrick Callahan, Superintendent of the NJSP, has recognized the need for reform and has agreed to accept the recommended reforms, and will be dedicating members of his command staff to oversee the implementation and provide regular updates and deliverables to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG).

Platkin, the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor (OIFP), and the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) today announced a three-year prison term for a man convicted of illegally possessing a weapon in connection with an auto theft investigation conducted by the New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF), of which OIFP is a member.

Governor Murphy Finally Starts to Faceup to Statewide Stolen Car Epidemic

Trenton NJ, in September , a suspect entered Governor Phil Murphy’s exclusive waterfront Middletown neighborhood looking to steal a car. The governor’s neighbor’s home was targeted by at least two would-be car thieves who tried to break into their Garage. Another neighbor scared the thieves off and the perpetrators fled the scene in a white BMW SUV.

Governor Phil Murphy implied on several occasions that Republicans are playing the “crime card” and apparently that’s racist.

On November 12th Governor Murphy seemed to change his tune and announced support for a series of legislative measures to combat auto theft. The Governor proposed:

Paterson NJ, acting Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced that eight defendants were indicted today on second-degree conspiracy and other charges related to the operation of a Paterson “chop shop” that possessed stolen vehicles and stripped them for parts. They were charged in a joint investigation by the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC).
