NJ TRANSIT TO PURCHASE EIGHT ADDITIONAL DUAL-POWERED LOCOMOTIVES

Ridgewood NJ,  The NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors today approved the purchase of eight additional ALP-45A dual-powered locomotives manufactured by Bombardier Transit Corporation for a cost of approximately $70.5 million.  The new locomotives will allow NJ TRANSIT Rail Operations to retire some locomotives in the fleet to increase mechanical reliability, improve on-time performance, provide operational flexibility and promote a more sustainable planet for the future.

CASH FARES RESUME ON NJ TRANSIT TRAINS BEGINNING JULY 6th

Ridgewood NJ,  NJ TRANSIT is resuming the collection of cash fares on board trains beginning Monday, July 6th.  The cash option was temporarily suspended as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.  Cash transactions on board trains will be subject to the previous $5 surcharge policy.  Customers are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets prior to boarding using the NJ TRANSIT mobile app and ticket vending machines (TVMs).

The effort continues NJ TRANSIT’s commitment to investigating and deploying the latest technology and best practices to provide a clean and safe environment for all customers and employees.

NJ TRANSIT RELEASES “YOUR RIDE TO RECOVERY” GUIDELINES

Ridgewood NJ,  As part of its continued recovery efforts, NJ TRANSIT has released guidelines detailing the critical steps being taken to protect customers and employees during the reopening of New Jersey and the region, as we prepare for customers to return to the transit system. These guidelines are consistent with “The Road Back”, New Jersey’s roadmap for restoring economic health through public health.

In addition to NJ TRANSIT taking any and all measures to continue to make the system as safe and possible, the agency is reinforcing a “shared responsibility” approach that relies on customers and employers doing their part as well. The plan focuses on NJ TRANSIT’s commitment to six areas: Service, Cleanliness, Distancing, Communication, Protective Equipment & Public Safety and Screening & Testing.

Governor Murphy Signs Off On Toll Hikes and Goes on Massive Borrowing and Spending Binge

Governor Murphy has officially approved the NJ Turnpike and Garden State expansion plan and the Atlantic City Expressway expansion in the Pinelands. He signed the meeting minutes on May 27 and sent confirmation letters to the NJ Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Transportation Authority. Earlier that day, the boards of both agencies held public hearings and approved the toll increases.

This critical emergency relief funding will enable NJ TRANSIT to continue to provide service to essential workers who are on the front lines of the Coronavirus response.

NJ TRANSIT will close Newark Penn Station overnight from 11:00 p.m. until 4:30 a.m for Cleaning and Disinfection

Newark NJ,  To protect NJ TRANSIT customers and employees, the hours of operation at Newark Penn Station will be modified overnight to allow for a daily deeper cleaning and disinfection. Starting Sunday, May 3 until further notice, NJ TRANSIT will close Newark Penn Station overnight from 11:00 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. The station will reopen daily at 4:30 a.m.

COVID-19 testing will be available daily for all NJ Transit Employees

East Rutherford NJ, beginning next week, COVID-19 testing will be available daily in East Rutherford to all NJ TRANSIT employees. NJ TRANSIT employees will be accepted for appointment-only testing at the site which opened on April 13 and is currently geared toward first responders and frontline healthcare workers. Online registration access for NJ TRANSIT employees will be available beginning on Sunday, May 3. NJ TRANSIT is also working to expand access to similar testing sites in central and south Jersey.

Governor Phil Murphy Signs Executive Order Limiting Travel and Requiring Masks

Ridgewoood NJ, Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 125, imposing additional mitigation requirements on NJ TRANSIT and all private carriers to limit the spread of COVID-19. The order also outlines specific policies on restaurants that have remained open for takeout orders.

“We must continue our commitment to do everything we can to flatten the curve and defeat this virus,” said Governor Murphy.  “With these additional requirements, we are aggressively reducing the spread of the virus to protect New Jersey residents.”
