Environmentally Friendly Shelter Uses Solar To Power Lights and USB Charging Ports

Cherry Hill NJ, NJ TRANSIT has unveiled a new state-of-the art solar panel bus shelter in Cherry Hill, the first of its kind for the agency.  The latest generation shelter continues to advance NJ TRANSIT’s sustainability goals laid out in its 10-Year Strategic Plan.  The solar panels on the roof of the shelter harness the power of the sun to recharge a battery which operates the shelter’s lights at night and adds a new customer convenience in USB charging ports. We were hoping for heat in the winter but I guess you can’t have everything .

New Jersey Transit Police Officers Help Track Down Hoboken Bank Robbery Suspect

Hoboken NJ, on Thursday, 9/16/21, New Jersey Transit Police Officers were alerted to a report of a bank robbery in Hoboken NJ. Officers initiated checks of the surrounding area for anyone matching the suspect’s description. New Jersey Transit Police Officers Officers Markowitz and Ristovski were patrolling at Hoboken Terminal and observed a matching suspect. The suspect was attempting to flee onboard a Path train. Together with a plain clothes Hoboken Police Detective, the officers handcuffed the suspect and recovered a large sum of money. Uniformed Hoboken Police Officers took custody of the suspect and the New Jersey Transit Police Officers returned to service.

Newark NJ, NJ TRANSIT continues to advance the $190-million renovation and revitalization of Newark Penn Station with today’s release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Master Planning, Conceptual, Preliminary, and Final Design, and Construction Assistance Services. In December, Governor Phil Murphy joined NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett, community leaders and municipal, county and state officials to announce this major investment that will breathe new life into the 86-year-old station and it’s surrounding area in the downtown of the State’s largest city.

Armed man spotted chasing another, disarmed and apprehended by NJ Transit Police

Newark NJ, On Monday 8/2/21, New Jersey Transit Police Officers Penalva and Ydo were on a patrol detail at Newark Penn Station. The officers observed a man enter the station while brandishing a knife and chasing another man. The officers quickly acted to disarm and ultimately apprehend the aggressor. Their immediate response prevented any injury and brought a safe resolution to a dangerously unfolding incident.

Undetonated Pipe Bomb was found next to a Bus Stop located at the Intersection of Howland Avenue and Kinderkamack Road, River Edge

River Edge NJ, an undetonated pipe bomb was found next to a NJ Transit bus stop located at the intersection of Howland Avenue and Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, on Thursday afternoon, 07/29. The device was successfully removed from the scene by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad. Bomb Squad technicians deployed a remote controlled robot and a trailer mounted containment chamber to safely manage the vessel. At least one (1) building in a nearby garden apartment complex was evacuated in connection with the incident. An elderly male evacuee was assessed by Emergency Medical Technicians at the scene after he complained of fatigue and exhaustion. He refused ambulance transportation to a local hospital.

For NJ Transit masks are STILL REQUIRED onboard vehicles and inside enclosed stations, but are no longer required on outdoor platforms or at bus stops.

Hoboken Bound Service on NJ Transit’s Bergen Line was Temporarily Suspended on Tuesday Afternoon Due to Downed Tree

Glen Rock NJ, Hoboken bound train service on NJ Transit’s Bergen Line was suspended briefly on Tuesday afternoon, 7/20, due to a downed tree limb blocking a track in Glen Rock. The limb fell from a tree located behind a home in the 100 block of Glen Ave shortly before 1 PM. A nearby homeowner notified Glen Rock Police, they in turn notified NJ Transit. A maintenance of way crew responded quickly and removed the blockage using chain saws. Full train service was restored by 1:30 PM. No injuries were reported.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT supports and encourages the use of personal vehicles, such as bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, Segways, and hoverboards, by providing accommodations for customers using personal vehicles to the greatest extent possible.There is no extra charge for bringing personal vehicles aboard NJ TRANSIT vehicles, access is allowed from all station platforms, and permits are not required.

For passengers’ safety, riding or charging personal vehicles inside NJ TRANSIT facilities or on board NJ TRANSIT vehicles is strictly prohibited. Gasoline-powered personal vehicles, such as mopeds, are also prohibited on NJ TRANSIT vehicles.
