Calling education the “civil rights issue of our time,” President Donald Trump used his address before Congress last week to highlight one of his top issues – school choice.

Echoing a campaign promise, Trump vowed to push for students in poor school districts to be able to use public funds to attend a charter, private or religious school.

“I am calling upon members of both parties to pass an education bill that funds school choice for disadvantaged youth, including millions of African-American and Latino children,” Trump said. “These families should be free to choose the public, private, charter, magnet, religious or home school that is right for them.”

Trump did not say what form his school choice program would take. But he did give a few hints of what a federal push for school choice might look like in New Jersey and around the country.

DONALD Trump’s allegation that his predecessor ordered his phone to be tapped is “simply false”, Barack Obama’s spokesman says.

In an astonishing salvo of early morning tweets, the firebrand President claimed his predecessor had bugged his phones during the “very sacred election process”, slamming the allegations as a “Nixon/Watergate” scandal.

President Donald Trump promises “open doors” at the White House

Trump thumbs up

February 27,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Washington DC, President Donald Trump promised “open doors” at the White House this week.  Where the White House doors used to be closed, they are now wide open – open for the People’s Business. But, most importantly, we are translating these meetings into action.

In a statement Trump said , ” Where the White House doors used to be closed, they are now wide open – open for the People’s Business. But, most importantly, we are translating these meetings into action.

One by one, we are checking off the promises we made to the people of the United States. And we will not stop until the job is done.

2714✔️We will reduce taxes.
2714✔️We will cut regulations.
2714✔️We will support our police.
2714✔️We will defend our flag.
2714✔️We will rebuild our military.
2714✔️We will take care of our Veterans.
2714✔️We will fix our trade deals.
2714✔️We will cut wasteful spending.
2714✔️We will promote our values.
2714✔️We will rebuild our inner cities.
2714✔️And we will bring back our jobs and our dreams.

The forgotten men and women of America will be forgotten no longer. That is the heart of this new movement – and the future of the Republican Party.

The GOP will be the party of the American Worker. We will not answer to donors or lobbyists or special interests – but we will serve the citizens of the United States of America. Global cooperation is important. But there is no such thing as a global anthem, a global currency, or a global flag.

There is one allegiance that unites us all, and that is our allegiance to America. No matter our background, or income, or geography – we are all citizens of this blessed land. And no matter our color, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots.

We all salute the same American Flag. And we are all made equal by the same Almighty God.

As long as we have faith in each other, and trust in God, then there is no goal beyond our reach. There is no dream too large, no task too great. We are Americans. And the future belongs to us.

The future belongs to all of you. And America is about to come roaring back – Bigger and Better and Stronger than ever before.

Thank you, God Bless You, and God Bless the United States of America ”

The latest figures include 38% who Strongly Approve of the way Trump is performing and 36% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of +2.

Also, in the Poll  a plurality (47%) of voters believe America’s intelligence agencies have their own political agenda after questions about the source of top-secret information leaked to the media to hurt the Trump administration.

Nearly half of those polled (48%) also believe most reporters are biased against the president.   Only 12% think they are biased for Trump, while 31% feel most reporters try to be fair and balanced. Needless to say, Republicans and Democrats strongly disagree in their assessments of the media.

N.J. bill would fund sanctuary cities denied federal dollars by Trump

money-growing-on-tree-image-8

James — you should post this and then seek comment from the progressive Clinton/Gottheimer fans. How much are they willing to pay Hudson County over and beyond the Abbott money already going there?

UNION CITY — New Jersey lawmakers from immigrant-rich Hudson County on Tuesday announced a bill that would provide state aid to sanctuary cities denied federal funds for failing to comply with immigration rules.

The bill was introduced in both houses of the legislature on Tuesday by State Sen. Brian Stack, Assemblyman Raj Mukherji and Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro, all Democrats from the 33rd District.

The three held a press conference in the garage at City Hall in Union City, where Stack is also the mayor.

“Union City, technically, has always been a sanctuary city,” said Stack. “We have never turned away anybody, documented or undocumented, when they come in looking for help.”

The difference now is that President Donald Trump issued a Jan. 25 executive order intended to, “ensure that jurisdictions that fail to comply with applicable Federal law do not receive Federal funds, except as mandated by law,” specifically targeting sanctuary cities and states.

Washington better catch up to this business-minded president, ex-Chrysler chief says

President Donald Trump’s rapid overhaul of rules and regulations is not an unusual pace for business, so the nation’s capital better get used to his modus operandi, ex-Chrysler chief Bob Nardelli said Tuesday.

“Washington better catch up to this business-oriented, business-minded president,” Nardelli told “Squawk Alley.” “We have a lot of gnashing of teeth right now about the rate with which the president is moving. That’s not fast in the business world.”

Nardelli touted the speed at which Trump has set the stage for delivering on key campaign promises, but acknowledged that two major promises — corporate tax reform and repatriation — have not yet been addressed.

Reader says The world’s biggest stable is filled to the rim with horse dung and someone, presumably not you, needs to do something about it

Faith in Government

the Left’s perspective seems warped by cognitive dissonance. Trump’s task is herculean. The world’s biggest stable is filled to the rim with horse dung and someone, presumably not you, needs to do something about it. Emotions are important but at some point they need to be put to the side in favor of effective action. Your mileage may vary, but you might want to cut Trump a little slack and not try to drag him down to your level. Detraction is a sin we should all work to avoid, particularly when it is directed toward political leaders like Trump who are so clearly working in good faith toward the improvement and betterment of our nation.

Just look what Trump accomplished, against all odds? Why? Because people are desperate for some common sense which we can’t get from the today”s politicians. Securing our borders; better vetting for refugees and people from terror grown countries; a focus of jobs; deregulating finance/EPA and repairing our infrastructure are all good, common sense things our country is in desperate need of. Where was the outrage when Obama made policy changes that affect Cubans? Is the left anti-Cuban? The left look like idiots fighting and protesting to make it easier for terrorists and illegals to come to our country. So stupid. Why aren’t the majority Muslim countries taken in all these refugees but only majority Christian countries are, tell me why?

Steve Bannon Torches New York Times: ‘You Have No Power’

Steve Bannon

Stephen K. Bannon (or, for those who wish to maximize their SEO, Steve Bannon) — former Executive Chairman to Breitbart News — tells the New York Times’ Michael Grynbaum that the “elite media” has “no authority” to report on what the American people want out of newly-inaugurated President Donald Trump.

From the New York Times:

Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s chief White House strategist, laced into the American press during an interview on Wednesday evening, arguing that news organizations had been “humiliated” by an election outcome few anticipated, and repeatedly describing the media as “the opposition party” of the current administration.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Mr. Bannon said during a telephone call.

“I want you to quote this,” Mr. Bannon added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

How Trump is remaking the ‘culture war’

Trump Signs 3 Sweeping Executive Orders

By Rich Lowry

January 23, 2017 | 6:56pm | Updated January 24, 2017 | 9:46am

The nation’s foremost culture warrior is President Trump.

He wouldn’t, at first blush, seem well-suited to the part. Trump once appeared on the cover of Playboy. He has been married three times. He ran beauty pageants and was a frequent guest on the Howard Stern radio show. His “locker-room talk” captured on the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape didn’t, shall we say, demonstrate a well-honed sense of propriety.

There is no way Trump could be a credible combatant in the culture war as it existed for the last 40 years. But he has reoriented the main lines of battle away from issues related to religion and sexual morality and onto the ground of populism and nationalism. Trump’s culture war is fundamentally the people versus the elite, national sovereignty versus cosmopolitanism and patriotism versus multiculturalism.

Melania Trump stuns in first lady fashion stakes

Melania Trump

Jennie MATTHEW
AFPJanuary 21, 2017

Washington (AFP) – First Lady Melania Trump stunned fashion watchers by donning a sleek, off-the-shoulder cream dress with a daring thigh-high slit to dance with President Donald Trump at the inaugural balls.

Her column dress, finished with a sculpted ruffle that cascaded down the front of the gown and cinched at the waist with a red ribbon, won praise for being fresh, modern, elegant and yet understated.

She won rave reviews for her look and originality in choosing Herve Pierre a New York-based designer who last year struck out on his own after working as creative director for famed label Carolina Herrera.

Her pick is likely to boost sales and publicity for the relatively unknown Pierre, much like her predecessor Michelle Obama’s selection of the then relatively unknown Jason Wu in 2009 turned him into a star.

The 46-year-old former model glowed as she stepped onto the dance floor, her auburn hair hanging around her shoulders, with her husband, dressed in a black tie, to “My Way” the song made popular by Frank Sinatra and considered something of a personal anthem for Trump.

The couple swayed rather gingerly, the Republican president clutching his wife tightly by one hand and placing his other on her back as they nuzzled, and exchanged smiles and laughs.

The former reality TV star, who reportedly refused to practice the dance ahead of time, at times broke away from his wife to wave or flash a thumbs up to unidentified members of the crowd.

They were joined by Trump’s adult children from his two previous marriages, each dancing with their other halfs, and first daughter Ivanka stunning in a pink bead-encrusted princess Herrera gown.

Art Laffer: Trump Tax Cuts Will Bring Economic ‘Nirvana’

Arthur Laffer

President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed tax policies will have a positive effect much the same President Ronald Reagan’s did, says economist Art Laffer.

Laffer, a former member of Reagan’s Economic Policy Advisory Board, told the Financial Times that Trump should not worry about America’s growing trade deficit, and he should welcome a strong dollar.

Laffer is a proponent of supply-side economics, which calls for lower taxes and regulations on businesses. The theory is ridiculed by liberals as “trickle-down,” which they contend never fully trickles down to those as the bottom as proponents assert.

But his “Laffer Curve,” which he sketched on a napkin in 1974 for Nixon officials Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, maintains that there is a certain tax rate between zero and 100 percent that will generate the most possible government revenue. That percentage, Laffer says, is relatively low.

America Called Bullshit on the Cult of Clinton

Democratic presidential candidate U

The one good thing about Trump’s win? It shows a willingness among Americans to blaspheme against saints and reject the religion of hollow progressiveness.

Brendan O’Neill | November 20, 2016

If you want to see politics based on emotionalism over reason and a borderline-religious devotion to an iconic figure, forget the Trump Army; look instead to the Cult of Clinton.

Ever since Donald Trump won the presidential election, all eyes, and wringing hands, have been on the white blob who voted for him. These “loud, illiterate and credulous people,” as a sap at Salon brands them, think on an “emotional level.” Bill Moyers warned that ours is a “dark age of unreason,” in which “low information” folks are lining up behind “The Trump Emotion Machine.” Andrew Sullivan said Trump supporters relate to him as a “cult leader fused with the idea of the nation.”

What’s funny about this is not simply that it’s the biggest chattering-class hissy fit of the 21st century so far — and chattering-class hissy fits are always funny. It’s that whatever you think of Trump (I’m not a fan) or his supporters (I think they’re mostly normal, good people), the fact is they’ve got nothing on the Clinton cult when it comes to creepy, pious worship of a politician.

By the Cult of Hillary Clinton, I don’t mean the nearly 62 million Americans who voted for her. I have not one doubt that they are as mixed and normal a bag of people as the Trumpites are. No, I mean the Hillary machine—the celebs and activists and hacks who were so devoted to getting her elected and who have spent the past week sobbing and moaning over her loss. These people exhibit cult-like behavior far more than any Trump cheerer I’ve come across.

At dinner tables, in classrooms and in counseling offices, adults are grappling with how to help young people work through their anxieties and emotions in the aftermath of the divisive presidential election.

In colleges, students lined up for counseling sessions and sought out peers for support at meetings and at rallies.
