Readers debate Addiction and Personal responsibility

opioid and heroin epidemic

It is getting all this new attention because it is hitting the suburbs, and more accurately, white people. Now it’s something we as a society must deal with.

I’m sorry, but it is not a disease. I cannot catch it from someone I shake hands with or even have sex with. While little Johnny or Susie might be at risk, I believe it’s little Johnny or Susie, or their families, who have to deal with it. Why should I? Is lousy financial management also a disease? Is getting pregnant at 14 a disease? Please, enough of this it-takes-a-village crap.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sorry. There are a thousand problems and diseases to be dealt with in this world.

Junkies – irrespective of how they are related to someone – are NOT what the government should be wasting resources on.

The quickest way to reduce the number of junkies is to stop bailing them out and pulling them back from the dead. The message will get through quickly.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Addiction is a PERSONAL brain disease by which the addict feeds themselves with the substance that releases all the good neurotransmitters. The body then craves more substance to release more neurotransmitters and the cycle continues. The only way you can blame SOCIETY is that we, as a whole, have been too soft and non-judgemental – AKA enablers for the addicts. Before we pass any more legislation giving all drugs the get-out-of-jail-free card, we should ask if flooding the market with a means of escape and/or stupification by substance is the best course of action in the REAL world.

Readers Debate Radicalized Terrorist or Failure, bottom rank idiot?

Ahmad Khan Rahami

September 23,2016

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, readers seems to fall into two major groups when it comes to terrorism ; either they are just losers with no friends or the more malevolent view that they are true believers in the fundamentalist cause .

“Dude failed in life, tried to find a purpose in religious extremism, and failed at that too. In a weird way, I pity him (that must be the latent Christian in me). Having said that, it would have been better for him to have died during his arrest. He’s obviously too stupid to have been trusted with any valuable information, and that’s assuming he’s ever been in contact with someone who would have such information. Highly doubtful. Right now he is spending a lot of time with people who know how to get answers, but they’ve probably already discovered they’re dealing with a bottom rank idiot.”
or….
“He was not radicalized. He was merely activated. Active or passive, they are all on the same page. Islam is a religion of peace only in regions or countries of the world where they have achieved utter political dominance. Every other place on earth is a war zone. Motivation? To terrorize and kill infidels, and die a martyr for Allah. Why must we feign ignorance when these thugs are so clearly telling us why they do what they do?”

Readers Debate Limits of Self Expression for Ridgewood blog Comments

coffee blogging

“You DID NOT originally say that “everyone can make their points without the use of foul or derogatory comments” (which btw who is the arbiter or what is and is not ‘foul’ and ‘derogatory’ – you?). Nor did you originally say that this language is a “part of free speech and legally permitted”. Nor did you ASK that people use language that doesn’t deliberately attack other people.
.
What you DID say was:
1. A comment “should be deleted“ to “Do the right thing
2. Using the blog to “display discriminatory comments is not a justified use“
3. People can “say the worst things about people without using language that should be banned“
.
These statements are very clear and very specific –
– DELETE comment
– NOT justified
– should be BANNED
.
For someone who is so keen on language use (and has established herself to be the arbiter in this area), to come back with revisionist language: (” Of course they are part of ‘Free Speech” and are legally permitted”; ” I’m just asking that people use language that doesn’t deliberately attack other people) is disingenuous at best and reveals you to be someone who is quick to criticize and judge others but is above criticism and error and not to be held to your own standard.”
