Ridgewood NJ, As part of the effort to continue its fare modernization initiative, NJ TRANSIT, in conjunction with its vendor Conduent Transportation, has begun the installation process to bring onboard ticket validators to its entire statewide bus fleet. The devices allow customers using paper and mobile barcode tickets/passes to minimize personal contact with bus operators by scanning the barcode instead of handing the operator the ticket.

Ridgewood NJ, As an additional measure to protect customers and employees from the spread of COVID-19, NJ TRANSIT is introducing vending machines on a pilot basis to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face masks, hand sanitizer, sanitized wipes and disposable gloves at Newark Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal. The machines will also be installed at other select stations over the coming weeks.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is resuming the collection of cash fares and front door boarding on buses which have protective barriers installed around the bus operator beginning August 3rd. As part of NJ TRANSIT’s Your Ride to Recovery, the protective devices are being installed throughout the bus fleet to provide a barrier between the operator and customers. Cash fares and front door boarding will remain temporarily suspended on buses which have not yet had the barrier installation.

Ridgewood NJ, Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 165, which lifts 50 percent capacity limits on NJ TRANSIT and private-carrier buses, trains, light rail vehicles and Access Link vehicles, and now requires that NJ TRANSIT and private-carriers limit vehicles to the maximum seated capacity, effective at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is resuming the collection of cash fares on board trains beginning Monday, July 6th. The cash option was temporarily suspended as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19. Cash transactions on board trains will be subject to the previous $5 surcharge policy. Customers are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets prior to boarding using the NJ TRANSIT mobile app and ticket vending machines (TVMs).

Ridgewood NJ, As part of its continued recovery efforts, NJ TRANSIT has released guidelines detailing the critical steps being taken to protect customers and employees during the reopening of New Jersey and the region, as we prepare for customers to return to the transit system. These guidelines are consistent with “The Road Back”, New Jersey’s roadmap for restoring economic health through public health.
In addition to NJ TRANSIT taking any and all measures to continue to make the system as safe and possible, the agency is reinforcing a “shared responsibility” approach that relies on customers and employers doing their part as well. The plan focuses on NJ TRANSIT’s commitment to six areas: Service, Cleanliness, Distancing, Communication, Protective Equipment & Public Safety and Screening & Testing.

Ridgewood NJ, Village of Ridgewood Mayor Ramon M Hache , “During last night’s Village Council meeting, I provided some details regarding the planning underway for the reopening of our downtown. While the reopening of businesses in NJ will be gradual, and we still do not have set dates and guidance from the Governor, it is safe to expect that there will be restrictions regarding the number of customers allowed at each business. That means businesses will not be able to fully utilize the interior square footage of their locations. Together with all the Village department heads, the Chamber of Commerce, the Ridgewood Guild, commercial landlords, retailers and restauranteurs, we are working on a reopening plan. That plan will, first and foremost, aim to ensure the safety of our residents and patrons while helping our businesses to have the necessary tools to thrive. With the understanding that the downtown that will reopen will be very different from the one that closed in March, we have to embrace some outside-the-box ideas that probably could have never been considered previously. For example, closing a significant portion of our downtown to vehicles, thereby creating an outdoor pedestrian mall on Saturdays and Sundays. It is the best way to ensure proper social distancing while allowing businesses to make up for the lost indoor square footage. While we encourage residents to walk to the downtown if possible, patrons will still be able to park on some streets as well as Walnut Street Lot, Bus Station Lot, Cottage Place Lot and the soon to open Hudson Street Parking Garage. As you can imagine, this will require a lot of coordination between NJ Transit, Ridgewood Police, Signal Department, commercial landlords, businesses, volunteers and most importantly you the public. Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is beginning the installation of new and improved ticket vending machines (TVM) at several locations systemwide. Fourteen new TVMs will be phased in over the next week, replacing older machines at bus, light rail and rail stations. This is the second phase of an expanded pilot program which rendered great success in Edison, as part of NJ TRANSIT’s ongoing contract with Conduent to modernize fare payment systems and enhance the customer experience.

East Rutherford NJ, beginning next week, COVID-19 testing will be available daily in East Rutherford to all NJ TRANSIT employees. NJ TRANSIT employees will be accepted for appointment-only testing at the site which opened on April 13 and is currently geared toward first responders and frontline healthcare workers. Online registration access for NJ TRANSIT employees will be available beginning on Sunday, May 3. NJ TRANSIT is also working to expand access to similar testing sites in central and south Jersey.
