Co-working takes off in suburban New Jersey

Serendipity Labs Opens Downtown Ridgewood, Coworking Space

Shared work spaces skew older in Garden State communities

Co-working companies are gaining a toehold in suburban New Jersey, fed by demand from members who have left the corporate world and large companies who want to provide employees flexibility.

While the co-working movement, led by industry giant WeWork, is established in cities across the world, it’s gaining momentum in the suburbs, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The typical suburban shared-office facility is under 15,000 square feet, and is usually targeted at an older audience than those co-working locations that lure millennials with beer and ping pong.

The epidemic that’s ruining youth sports

During a soccer game early last year, Tiffany Lin began experiencing a sharp pain in her right knee.

Then a freshman at Manhattan’s Beacon School, Lin tried to play through the pain but sought out a doctor when it wouldn’t subside.

The diagnosis? She had Osgood-Schlatter disease, which is the inflammation of the area just below the knee. It mostly occurs during growth spurts and is exacerbated by continuous pounding of the knees that happens during sports such as soccer and running.

It wasn’t difficult to figure out the culprit. Lin, a fullback, played on three soccer teams: her varsity high-school squad, club ball in lower Manhattan and a recreation team. At times, she was playing the sport seven days a week.

“My doctor said it wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t overusing my body so much,” says the 16-year-old, who was sidelined for a few weeks. “I’m getting better. I’m learning how to ice, stretch and rest.”

But for every teen athlete who takes a break, there are hundreds who don’t heed doctors’ warnings and continue to overburden their growing bodies. Eventually, many will contribute to the epidemic of overuse injuries — which are on the rise according to several studies and orthopedic doctors — now sullying youth sports.

“I’m seeing these overuse injuries in younger and younger people,” says Michael A. Kelly, MD, chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hackensack University Medical Center.

Reader says It is unbelievable if not one of our council members attended the OVERDEVELOPMENT forum Bergen Community College

high density housing Ridgewood

It is unbelievable if not one of our council members attended this event!!! Instead of wasting your time on silly squabble, bet down to the issues that affect each and every tax payer in Ridgewood. We do not want to turn our town over to developers who are going to destroy the Village and line their pockets under the banner of “fair housing.” Can someone confirm whether or not we participated in this event and whether we are taking an active ole in supporting this Assembly womens’ efforts? And if our council people are not, they should consider resigning because they really are not addressing the most pressing issue facing and threating our town. Its outrageous that our council members are fiddling while Rome starts to burn beneath their feet! Arohnson and his ilk turned the town over to developers. But this group is doing nothing to try and take it back. Its time for action.

Home bakers in New Jersey stew over country’s last ban

Home bakers in New Jersey stew over country’s last ban

By Josh Cornfield | AP June 18 at 12:09 PM

TRENTON, N.J. — There’s only one thing preventing baker Mandy Coriston from selling the Irish soda bread she makes from her great-grandmother’s recipe inside her old cast-iron skillets: She lives in New Jersey.

New Jersey is now the only state in the U.S. where people can’t sell home-baked goods after a Wisconsin court this month invalidated that state’s ban.

Wisconsin officials have said they may appeal the judge’s decision, but the state Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would allow home bakers to sell without a license.

A push by a group including Coriston to overturn New Jersey’s law has drawn plenty of supporters over the last eight years, but one state lawmaker has so-far blocked it from being considered because of concerns over public health issues.

Reader says Ridgewood has recently been overrun with emotional (if not chronological) teenagers

Ridgewood 3 amigos

Now we know on which side of the political aisle the problem lies with respect to incivility in public discourse. (Rev. Jan, former Mayor Aronsohn, are you and your cabal of energizer bunnies paying attention?)
.
As if this circumstance wasn’t painfully apparent from early on in the primary process, through the general election season, and on into the transitional period.
.
So-called social justice warriors, many of them quite young, as well as battle-scarred political progressives have blood coming out of their eyes, out of their nose, out of their…whatever. Such is their dissatisfaction with the political transformation the country has voluntarily gone through after eight years of amateur hour America-bashing under Obama and a Republican party that has proven it can’t take “yes” for an answer (because it is inexplicably failing to line up behind Trump, the best thing to happen to them in many decades).
.
The attempted assassin was going after members of the Congressional freedom caucus. He knew where the true obstacles were that stand in the way of the retrogressive statist agenda he (as a true, though deluded, believer) shares with Pelosi and the rest of the paleoliberals in D.C.
.
Creating unnecessary political conflict, indeed stoking civil chaos, is the new priority of the progressives, and even the swamp-dwelling RINOs. Trump needs to bulldoze through all of it. He has the red-blooded American people behind him, even if Ridgewood has recently been overrun with emotional (if not chronological) teenagers.

PSE&G to Upgrade Aging Gas Pipes in Ridgewood

New lines will improve reliability and ensure continued safety of gas service

June 18,2017

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ,Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) will be working in Ridgewood to replace nearly two miles of old gas pipes with new piping – ensuring a continued safe, clean and reliable gas system well into the future.

Beginning on June 16, work will take place Monday through Saturday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting. The gas main replacement portion of the work is expected to be completed by the fall. The paving and street restoration is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018.

“These upgrades are part of PSE&G’s three-year program to replace 510 miles of aging gas infrastructure throughout New Jersey,” said Joe Forline, vice president of gas operations for PSE&G. “After decades of being in the ground, old cast iron pipes can crack and unprotected steel may corrode. The new durable, plastic pipes will improve reliability, reduce the possibility of leaks, and ensure the continued safety of gas service for customers.”

PSE&G is committed to keeping customers in Ridgewood informed about where and when the work will take place. Residents will be notified when work begins in their area by mail, door hangers and social media. Customers can find more information, including a list of streets and video of how the work is performed at www.pseg.com/gaswork.

“The investments PSE&G is making to upgrade its aging gas infrastructure will benefit all Ridgewood residents by ensuring continued safe and reliable service,” said Mayor Susan Knudsen. “PSE&G is coordinating with the local police who will be directing traffic around work areas. We appreciate the patience of our residents while PSE&G performs this important work in our town.”

How the work will be done Before construction can start, the utility tests soil and digs test holes to verify the location of existing gas pipe. When this preliminary work is complete, PSE&G will begin installing the new gas lines.

• To upgrade the gas lines, PSE&G digs trenches, primarily in road surfaces, and lays new pipes block by block to minimize disruptions. There will be short-term road closures and detours during construction. Local police direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic. At the end of each workday, the trenches are filled in and protective plates secured on any open areas so people can safely drive and walk. Customers always have access to their driveways.

• When possible, the utility does not dig on properties. If PSE&G does have to dig on a customer’s property, the utility restores any disturbance after the service line is installed. Grass areas are repaired and seeded, and concrete or asphalt openings are patched until final restoration work is scheduled.

• After construction, a PSE&G technician needs to access the customer’s home to connect the service line and gas meter to the new gas main. The utility contacts homeowners to arrange a date and time to do the work. During this reconnection, customers can expect to be without gas service for about 4 hours.

• If a gas meter is inside, PSE&G relocates it to the outside of the customer’s home or business. A technician relights all appliances and makes sure they are working safely before leaving a home.

• When work is finished, the utility repairs roads with temporary pavement until the ground settles. This takes about 45 to 90 days. PSE&G then restores the roads with permanent paving in accordance with town ordinance and paving requirements.

### Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) is New Jersey’s oldest and largest regulated gas and electric delivery utility, serving nearly three-quarters of the state’s population. PSE&G is the winner of the ReliabilityOne Award for superior electric system reliability.
