Glen Rock NJ, On Wednesday, October 2nd at approximately 10:45 pm the Glen Rock Fire Department was dispatched to 154 Greenway Road for a report of smoke coming from the 2nd floor of a vacant house. Chief Aguliar and Assistant Chief Jennings arrived on the scene and found a working fire on the 1st floor of the structure. Engine 831 took a hydrant laying in, stretched a 1 3/4″ attack line, and made entry to find visible fire coming through the floor. Knocking down the fire they attempted to locate the basement stairs to check for fire in the basement. The officer of 831 sounding the floor in front of the hose line suddenly fell through the 1st floor into the basement. He declared a mayday and was able to self-extricate himself out of the basement and exited with the hose crew outside of the structure clearing the mayday. Ladder 832 and a Ridgewood engine company were able to stretch the 2nd line to the basement and confirm the fire was contained/extinguished to the floor between the basement and the 1st floor. Mutual companies assisted in primary and secondary searches as well as an overhaul.

Ridgewood NJ, Saturday 8/31/2019: Ridgewood Fire Department “C” Shift extinguished an engine compartment fire without any injuries or extension into the passenger compartment! MMost of the car was saved but we are not sure it will make it to the Ridgewood car show .

The car appears to be a Karmann-Ghia .The first KarmannGhia was introduced in Europe in 1955 and arrived in America as a coupe in 1956. The convertible soon followed in 1958. It cost $300 to $400 more than the coupe, but was sportier to convertible-loving Americans, for whom it initially was built. The slick little car was sold through 1974. The car was made by Volkswagen .

“I was in the ER as well the police EMS where amazing treated driver with respect and patience even when driver got angry when spoken to saying “it’s my house I hit what is the big deal ? What are you trying to get from me ?” The officer was far more patient then I think I would’ve been bc as he responded “I’m trying to help you jog your memory bc your asking me again where these black & black marks came from ” he was very professional the entire I was there , regardless of why “accident ” occurred I can’t understand how anyone would question anything EMS / police responses especially volunteer professionals , I have to assume that the person who stated “waste of tax payer funds ” must have a crystal ball or knows he or she will never need the services of these professionals … crazy to judge anything like this … personally I’d like to thank all these and other professionals for all they do for myself my elderly parents and all the people in between it takes a very special kinda person to do what you do I know I couldn’t !”

Reader says ,”Valley used Ridgewood’s services without any payment”

Ridgewood firefighters quickly extinguished a fire inside a document shredding truck at Valley Hospital

file photo by Boyd Loving

“I take exception to the above statement that Valley gave us big donations. In actuality, Valley used Ridgewood’s services without any payment. Several years ago, a Judge declared that hospitals could be charged money in lieu of taxes–but the Council did not want to charge them. The law was also passed that hospitals had to pay town taxes for all the property they owned that was used “for profit entities”. Valley owns a ton of property in Ridgewood–all being used for profit making endeavors! Do they pay taxes? I know they do not pay for all the Police and Fire calls–not even for the mandatory use of Vet’s field–which requires both police and fire to stand by–for their inbound patient helicopters. Residents are charged for fire calls that exceed a certain number. Valley probably exceeds this number the first week of every month. This use of the fire department includes police to stand by. Do they pay–not likely! And, even when they technically “leave the Village years from now”, they are legally responsible to continue to pay (if they had ever started!) for money in lieu of taxes and real estate taxes for all the profit making buildings. Just think how much tax could be paid on just the 200 building near the Duck Pond? I am quite sure that no physician or other use “donates their time” but are instead well paid for it. I can’t understand why the Village refuses to collect all that money that is legally owed to them as well as all the unpaid money due from Fire, Police, and other services we supply for free! At one time, the Village even picked up their garbage for free! Remember, YOUR tax money is paying for all of these FREE services!”

Ridgewood NJ, the Firework show ended early due to a malfunction that caused shells to explode on the ground in the launch area. No injuries were reported .

The unplanned detonation did not happen near the crowd.  Ridgewood firefighters were in position when the misfire occurred and quickly responded to and extinguished fire.

This is why safety areas are established and emergency plans in place. There have been accidents before and Ridgewood public safety personnel have been there to keep residents safe.

“The waste of tax dollars is the schools trying to educate your low iq offspring. I have lived here for half a century and there is zero chance of getting a sufficient number of volunteers. The ambulance can’t get enough to staff it during the day and that’s only requiring 2 people. Response time is critical. The rfd has always been prompt for fire and medical calls for my neighbors and those of us long time residents who subsidize you newby NY transplants and we are tired of your whining. The cost is minuscule compare to the money pissed away on sports fields, parking garages and th bloated school budget.”
