Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Emergency Services had its full complement of volunteer members, equipment and assisting agencies to ensure the safety of those attending the morning July 4th Parade and the evening Fireworks. According to Acting Chief Ryan Savaria, the officers start planning for the day’s events immediately at the conclusion of this year’s events. “Starting with an after-action report of the event, we evaluate the activity, look at best practices and where we can improve.” “There are lessons learned at every incident”. We take these lessons and implement corrective actions for subsequent events.

Ridgewood NJ, the Firework show ended early due to a malfunction that caused shells to explode on the ground in the launch area. No injuries were reported .

The unplanned detonation did not happen near the crowd.  Ridgewood firefighters were in position when the misfire occurred and quickly responded to and extinguished fire.

This is why safety areas are established and emergency plans in place. There have been accidents before and Ridgewood public safety personnel have been there to keep residents safe.

Reader says We need more police for the Ridgewood fireworks

Ridgewood Fireworks

file photo by Boyd Loving

We need more police for the fireworks. Cars stopped in both directions on Ridgewood Ave to watch the show. Drivers were trying to pass.

After the show families were leaving and flooding across the street. One car kept moving forward, the driver clearly did not want to be held up by pedestrian traffic. A pedestrian got into an argument with him

Ridgewood NJ, It takes a lot of effort to host a parade and fireworks ,the Ridgewood Fourth of July Committee who oversees yesterdays 106th annual Independence Day celebration in Ridgewood had its first meeting way back in September.

The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration is organized by the Ridgewood Fourth of July Committee, a private all-volunteer group. The Committee is not part of the Village government and receives no funding from the Village. The Committee, was originally called the Ridgewood Independence Day Association, was formed in 1910.

DSCF1082

The Ridgewood Fourth of July Committee was up at the crack of dawn to deliver water to the parade route, put markers at the staging area and set up for a volunteers’ breakfast that starts at 7 a.m. Groups lineup around 8am .

Ridgewood’s parade has over 100 groups that march in it and, together with a fireworks display in Veterans Memorial Field later that night, and can cost over $100,000 . Security and the fireworks themselves are some of the biggest costs, with all of the money for the celebration coming from ticket sales, business sponsorships and private donations.

And of coarse in Ridgewood in time honored tradition , eager residents begin reserving spots along the parade route weeks in advance marking their spots with folding lawn chairs.

Ridgewood to celebrate America’s birthday

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

Others might claim the title as the county’s oldest or longest running parade, but Ridgewood’s day-long Independence Day celebration might be unmatched in pageantry and spectacle.

That notion is unlikely to change this Saturday, the 105th installation of the village’s Fourth of July festivities.

This year, the Fourth of July Parade – the crown jewel of the celebration – will pay homage to the innovation and ingenuity that became the cornerstone of the country. Much of the parade’s procession will be designed and decked out in garb observing the “American Innovation” theme.

Selecting the parade theme and planning for the event, according to Ridgewood Fourth of July Committee member Tara Masterson, is a lengthy task that begins in September.

“One of our first tasks is to identify a theme, which is a collaborative effort of the entire committee,” Masterson said. “This year, we chose American Innovation to celebrate innovators in our community, New Jersey and throughout the history of America. Each of the six elementary schools will be creating floats that will display various aspects of American Innovation.”

The Fourth of July Committee’s website further describes the theme selection: “On July 4, 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed, a new nation was invented where with hard work and determination anyone can attain their dreams. Since then, America has seen many great minds that have developed innovations we use in our everyday lives. This year we will be celebrating the innovators and innovations that America has seen throughout its great history.”
