Reader says,”There has always been a “turnover ” of residents but taxes will chase us out faster, and your taxes will go up exponentially”

realestate_forsale_theridgewoodblog

“I am contemplating retirement in a few years.
I am not rich, but I saved a few bucks and have no mortgage .
I actually like it here and lived in NJ all my life.
For those of us who do not have children in public schools (and never did) the biggest expense is the schools portion of the real estate tax.
If you want to keep us here to subsidize your kids, you better figure out a way to limit our tax increase.
If we leave, you can be certain our home will be purchased by a young family with children requiring an education
In the old days, many long time Ridgewood families stayed here for generations (and thanks to them it’s a nice town – before the vinyl siding and and lawn sign crowd moved here from NYC)
There has always been a “turnover ” of residents but taxes will chase us out faster, and your taxes will go up exponentially .
Residents with no kids in school get NOTHING in return while SUBSIDIZING those who do. “

Reader says , “Ridgewood Schools Fail to Develop Male Students of High Academic Potential “

fast-times-at-ridgemont-high-5

“The Ridgewood district has also chronically failed to adequately encourage and adequately develop students who early on demonstrate extremely very high academic potential, but also who have moderate emotional or behavioral challenges and/or ADHD, or who happen to be male. (Oops–was only thinking that last part, didn’t mean to blurt it out. How rude to admit the hard and naked truth of Nothern New Jersey public schools in 2019.)

Reader says , “There’s too much talk about diversity and inclusion and less about discipline and competence”

gay flag

The rankings measure how well the competition does, as well as Ridgewood school district. Without proper analysis, one can’t assume the drop in Ridgewood rankings is due to declining quality. It could just be other schools started to deliver better performance than before.

I am concerned about indoctrination in the school system though. There’s too much talk about diversity and inclusion and less about discipline and competence.

Reader Calls The Newsweek “Best Hospitals” a SUBJECTIVE OPINION poll

Bike_Valley_theridgewoodblog

The Newsweek “Best Hospitals” is a SUBJECTIVE OPINION poll
.
It is basically a popularity contest and is useless as an indicator of the quality of a hospital.
.
From Newsweek’s own website regarding the methodology used:
(they even call the list a “survey” – not an analysis)

Reader says Ridgewood Schools Remain Strong

Tradition_of_excellence_theridgewoodblog

4 generations here and I do not agree with your subjective essay about Ridgewood schools declining compared to other public schools. Your observation about no child left behind being a negative is valid for all public schools not just Ridgewood. Private schools will likely continue to benefit from this advantage but truth is they always have.
Rank History for Ridgewood High School, does not show decline.
This graph shows how well Ridgewood High School is performing relative to other high schools in New Jersey.

Reader says “Christians are generally more pleasant “

1779238 10152004023698300 2067613236 n1

“First, learn to spell. Perhaps some prayer would help.
Second, one only need to look at how the present joke of a presidential administration got into power to see that “christians” are fundamentally anti-atheist. They are willing to over look perhaps the most un-christian person characteristics solely to advance their agenda. An agenda which goes against the tide of history.
I look forward to the day that religion is but a story we tell our children of a far more ignorant age.”

.
There you go again. More angry, hateful rhetoric. You are just making my point.
This type of mean spirited, pious, snarky attack reinforces my point that most people, regardless of their belief in God would rather spend time with those who believe in God, since they are generally more pleasant.

Reader says ,”School Decline due to a shift in focus from academic “excellence” to social engineering”

David Hogg Is Working With Obama On A Shocking New Plan To Confiscate Guns e15229464333581

Ridgewood schools are in decline… compared to ALL schools in NJ (and nationally).
You can cherry pick schools for comparison, but it DOES NOT change the fact that Ridgewood schools are not as esteemed as they were in the past. It is disgraceful given the amount of time, money and support (parental and otherwise) that they get. This is laregly due to a shift in focus from academic “excellence” to social engineering.
.
Sad, but an unavoidable truth.

snooki_jersey_shore_theridgewoodblog

“In the private sector, human resources departments routinely search social media sites of job applicants in order to ascertain whether or not they would be a “good fit” or “problematic” since much can be gained reading social media to determine someone’s attitudes , likes, dislikes etc.
Unfortunately when you are seeking employment in a municipality that operates under civil service rules, all that matters is your score on the tests .
I don’t think there is a reliable way to predict behavior, but what is a reasonable proposition is to have on going random drug testing of all cops, lawyers, judges , doctors , teachers and elected officials.
It’s already in place for employees of transportation industries .
If you have nothing to hide, there is no reason to object.”

Reader Takes a Long term View of Ridgewood Schools

tradition of excellence

“If you are a newish resident (anytime in the last 20 years) you would probably only notice a small decline in comparison with the forward motion of schools who used to be behind us and are now in front–often by many points. If you’ve lived here longer you will have noticed a fairly large increase of staff in the education supervisors. A department that either did not exist or only had at most one or two employees now has increased to an assistant to every assistant who works for a supervisor.
