We formally request that you vote AGAINST the 2018-2019 budget proposed by the Ridgewood Board of Education. The budget amounting to $110,167,997 represents an egregious increase of 4.36% from the year prior, resulting in a tax increase of 3.62%. This above-inflation, above-cap pace cannot be sustained, and we refuse to accept it as a solution.
According to the Board Vice President James Morgan and Member Christina Krauss, who have abstained from voting on the budget, “options to ameliorate budgetary pressures have been discussed.” We believe these options should be presented to the residents of Ridgewood and the Village collectively should decide on a more budget-friendly course of action.
The spotlight is on the three members who have indicated to vote for the proposed budget: Mr. B. Vincent Loncto (viloncto@rudgewood.k12.nj.us), Ms. Sheila Brogan (sbrogan@ridgewood.k12.nj) and Ms. Jennie Smith Wilson (jswilson@ridgewood.k12.nj.us). They, along with the Superintendent Dr. Daniel Fishbein (dfishbein@ridgewood.k12.nj.us), need understand that tax dollars should be used judiciously.

Ridgewood NJ, At the 2018 Earth Day celebration, Ridgewood Recycling announced an exciting new addition to the curbside recycling program. Residents may now recycle food and beverage cartons (juice, milk, soy milk, soup, broth, wine, beans, cream, liquid eggs) with their plastic, glass, and metal bottles & cans. Residents will receive an informational postcard (pictured below) in the coming days.
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Recycling congratulates Willard Elementary School for their outstanding efforts in connection with the 2018 Reusable Clothing Collection contest. In two short days, students, parents, and faculty gathered 1800 pounds of textiles. The contest had the enthusiastic backing of school principal, Caroline Hoffman, and two Willard teachers made a fun, educational video, which was aired to all Willard students to build interest in the clothing drive. The students will now receive a professional, environmental education school assembly, sponsored by Ridgewood Recycling. Congratulations Willard!!!
Ridgewood Recycling says ,”Many people would be surprised to find out that clothing and textile waste takes up around 5 % of our municipal waste stream. Of these items 95% can be re-used in one way or another. This clothing was brought to a facility where it is sorted into different categories and reused as second hand clothing, turned into wiping rags, or recycled into low grade fiber products.”

Monday will feature an 18-hole stroke-play qualifier, with the low score 16 advancing to Tuesday morning’s first round match play. With the final of this New Jersey State Golf Association event on Wednesday afternoon.
The 47th Boys Championship will run simultaneously .The Boys Championship is for ages 15 and under and will feature Liam White of Ridgewood among the 18 players competing for the title.
Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Train Station Historic district includes Garber and Wilsey Square and the the entire train station plaza ie the parking lot and is known as the Ridgewood central railroad Historic district .
Ridgewood would need an DEP approval to add additional parking at the Historic Train Station. The Village engineer Christopher Rutishauser had already submitted the application to the DEP and that application was challenged at the Council Meeting on Wednesday Night by Cynthia Halaby claiming it held many erroneous assertions .
In recent discussions the Village Council has been challenged by several Village committees and residents of the loss of green space at the train station . These are the same individuals and committees who supported clear cutting 5 acres of trees at Schedler Park.

RIDGEWOOD – A former chief financial officer for major corporations was sworn in Monday night as the school district’s newest trustee.
Vincent Loncto took his seat as a trustee at Monday’s school board meeting at the district’s Education Center on Cottage Place.
The certified public accountant was one of six candidates interviewed for the trustee post after Charles Reilly resigned earlier this year.
“The school budget is in the process of being developed, so I’m coming in at the right time,” said Loncto, who retired earlier this year from a 40-year career in financial management.
“It has to be done collaboratively,” he said. “What we are talking about here is enhancing the quality of the school system under budgetary constraints. It is detail-intensive work.”

The Board of Education (BOE) interviewed six candidates this week for the seat left vacant by trustee Charles Reilly’s departure last month.
Six candidates applied and were each questioned by board members on Monday night regarding their professional backgrounds, reasons for applying for the position, and goals as a potential BOE trustee. The decision on Reilly’s replacement will be announced at a public meeting on Nov. 7.
Among the candidates – James Morgan, Gwen Sullivan, B. Vincent Loncto, Janice Willet, Rei Shinozuka and Eric Gross – several themes were consistent across the six interviews. All expressed a desire to contribute to the reputation of the Ridgewood school district, which was a primary reason behind moving to the village for many of the candidates.
Issues of communication, whether relating to complex technical matters such as yearly budgets or simple instances of parent feedback, were also paramount in candidates’ responses.
