Reader says it is Implicit that guards may control traffic

Guards may be stationed only when it is necessary to control or direct vehicular or pedestrian traffic during those time periods of a school day when it is necessary to control traffic.” (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-154.4).

Implicit in the above is that guards may control traffic. And of course they could not do their job otherwise. They direct traffic in order to ensure the safety of children. they should not be concerned about traffic backups per se that don’t impair child safety. Any moron who is selfish enough to value the precious few minutes that it costs to obey the traffic management of a guard over the overall safety of school children should not drive on children’s routes to school

“The Village of Ridgewood is pleased to announce its recent agreement with All City Management Services, Inc. (ACMS) to provide Adult School Crossing Guard services throughout the Village. There are currently employment opportunities available for individuals who would like to work on a flexible schedule as substitute Crossing Guards or for those who would like to work toward becoming a regular guard. Crossing Guards work a short shift before and after school and receive compensation of $35 per day. If you would like more information on serving as a School Crossing Guard for the Village of Ridgewood, please contact Area Supervisor Gene Raffa at (201) 218.4615.”

The Ridgewood Police Department is accepting applications for school crossing guard positions.

Applications are available at the Police Desk located at 131 N. Maple Ave. A part-time position, 10 hours per week (two hours per day), starts at $17.49 per hour.
