Governor Murphy ends school Superintendent Salary Cap

Dan Fishbein 10

Ridgewood NJ,  Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation ending the cap on school superintendent salaries in New Jersey. The Democratic governor signed the measure baring the state Department of Education from setting maximum salaries for superintendents and sets guidelines for school executive contracts to limit or standardize bonuses, golden parachutes and other fringe benefits.

Former Republican Gov. Chris Christie had implemented a $175,000 cap on superintendents in 2011, citing what he called high salaries and generous perks in superintendent contracts. The cap was raised to $191,584 in 2017, with incentives to earn more if school chiefs stay in the same district.

So who wants to guess how long it will take for the Ridgewood Board of Education to raise the salary of our schools superintendent?

Trenton NJ, Senator Joe Pennacchio criticized Governor Murphy’s lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service, claiming it is a waste of state resources and taxpayer money.

“The Murphy Administration is lawsuit happy,” said Pennacchio (R-26). “The Governor should not be using New Jersey taxpayer dollars to play politics. Rather than fighting with the federal government, I urge Governor Murphy to focus on genuine and immediate tax solutions that we have the power as state lawmakers to advance.”

Governor’s IRS Lawsuit Does Not Solve State’s High Tax Problem

Trenton NJ, Senator Steven Oroho said that a lawsuit announced today by Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Gurbir Grewal against the Internal Revenue Service amounts to window dressing and won’t provide meaningful, long-term property tax relief to New Jersey families.

“New Jersey homeowners are the most overtaxed residents in the United States,” Oroho said. “The lawsuit announced today does very little to address that. The better approach would be to fix the state’s underlying tax problems that make the SALT limitation an issue. Governor Murphy can help make the Garden State more competitive and accomplish real savings for taxpayers by getting behind the Path to Progress reforms that have bipartisan support in the Legislature.”

Reader says ,”There will be no more “rich” to tax once all the rich have left”

Ridgewood NJ, news reports indicate that Phil Simms and Jon Bon Jovi are selling their high-priced, high-taxed New Jersey homes, possibly at deep-discounts.

a reader states the obvious ,”There will be no more “rich” to tax once all the rich have left. The “rich” can take the hit on their mansions in NJ and CT and make the difference up very quickly by moving to FL and paying a fraction of the taxes there. The dems and progs just don’t get this very simple concept.”

“It is quite amazing that Gov. Murphy and the politicians in Trenton have no interest in finding ways to reduce spending as opposed to raising taxes and increasing spending. Several years ago David Tepper moved himself and his business’s to Florida which put a major dent in New Jersey’s tax collections. Will they ever learn?”

Garden State Initiative’s president Regina Egea

Ridgewood NJ, While it news reports indicate that Phil Simms and Jon Bon Jovi are selling their high-priced, high-taxed New Jersey homes, possibly at deep-discounts, Garden State Initiative’s president Regina Egea recently authored on op-ed on how a crash of high-end real estate in Connecticut could be spreading to NJ – and what that means for Garden State taxpayers.

The Garden State Initiative is dedicated to making New Jersey a place where families and businesses can thrive. We are a nonpartisan research and educational organization that offers practical free-market solutions to the state and local challenges facing New Jersey.

A recent Wall Street Journal report “Wealthy  Greenwich Home Sellers Give in to Market Reality” on Connecticut’s real estate market should engender concern by all New Jersey residents.

Taxpayers just got handed a behemoth of a budget. Come November, give Republicans a chance to do better

steinhardt2

By Doug Steinhardt

On June 20, 2019, legislative Democrats captured the state budget and held it hostage. Then, on June 30, Gov. Phil Murphy signed the ransom note, a $38.7 billion behemoth that did nothing to address the state’s pension crisis, reduce spending or provide meaningful tax relief. For the nearly 78 percent of registered voters who didn’t vote in 2015, you might ask, “who cares?” My answer: we all should, because 100 percent of us are paying the bill.

TRENTON NJ, Fulfilling his promise to restore New Jersey’s national leadership in the fight against climate change and sea-level rise, Governor Phil Murphy today announced that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has formally adopted two rules returning New Jersey to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). New Jersey was a charter member of RGGI before Governor Christie withdrew the state from the compact in 2012.“Climate change and sea-level rise affect us all, and as a coastal state, New Jersey is especially vulnerable to the impacts of global warming,” said Governor Murphy.

This is code for , “now I can raise your taxes on all carbon based life forms ie… all human activity” .

Republicans Solidify Their Slate Of Candidates In The Murphy Midterms

steinhardt2

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Trenton NJ,  Tonight, Republicans elected a solid slate of candidates around the state to fight back in the Murphy Midterms. NJGOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt releases the following statement regarding the results:

“Republicans have a diverse slate of candidates in every corner of the state ready to fight back in the Murphy Midterms. The NJGOP is proud to support the Republican efforts to pick up a Senate seat in LD-1, fight for the majority in the General Assembly, and continue to add ideological diversity to our county and local governments. New Jersey residents deserve honest answers to our state’s real problems, and dishonest, Democratic spendthrifts like Phil Murphy and his bevy of rain tax, success tax, business tax, shore rental tax, Uber tax and gun taxes simply aren’t getting the job done. We can do better.”

New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants Issues Ominous Warning on Governor Murphy’s Proposed FY2020 Budget

Phill Murphy -Sara Medina del Castillo

Statement by Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA, CEO and Executive Director, NJCPA

The headlines are bleak and all too familiar:

  • “New Jersey’s Budget Mess is Getting Even Worse” (March 4, 2019, Bloomberg)
  • “New Jersey Governor Again Seeks Higher Taxes on Wealthy” (March 4, 2019, Wall Street Journal)
  • “On the budget, Governor Murphy’s not being fair to the English language” (March 5, 2019, NJ.com)

The message is clear: New Jersey is facing a fiscal crisis, and we are not committing ourselves to the difficult decisions that will put the state on sound financial footing. While the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) commends Governor Murphy for addressing issues such as health care spending, high property taxes and the growth of small businesses in his budget presentation, there’s more work to be done.

GOP Chairman Steinhardt, ” When politicians say they will raise taxes on the wealthy, they always end up raising taxes on the middle and working classes “

Trenton NJ, GOP Chairman Steinhardt’s Statement on the Murphy Budget Address : Winston Churchill said it best. “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.”  When politicians say they will raise taxes on the wealthy, they always end up raising taxes on the middle and working classes, too.

Just last year, Phil Murphy and the Democrats set the bar for their Success Tax at $5M in income. Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? But, one year later, these same Democrats redefine success as any family making more than $1M a year. Still sounds like a lot, I know. But, that’s an 80% drop from last year, and if the Democrats keep feeding and growing State government, you’re next.

Murphy & NJ Democrats Perpetuate a Fiscal Mess

Trenton NJ, Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) warned that Governor Phil Murphy and New Jersey Democrats haven’t learned from their mistakes and are doubling-down on failed fiscal policies that are driving residents and jobs from the Garden State.

“Governor Cuomo recently admitted that high taxes are driving residents from New York, leading to budget deficits and the flight of residents from the Empire State,” said Pennacchio. “Unfortunately, Governor Murphy and New Jersey Democrats still haven’t learned from their mistakes. They’re doubling down on tax-hiking policies that have never worked, and New Jersey is doing worse than our neighbors and most of the nation as a result.”

The budget that was approved last year by the Democratic Legislature and signed into law by Governor Murphy raised taxes by $1.5 billion. It is dependent on revenues growing by 7.5 percent over the course of the fiscal year to stay in the black.
