Ridgewood NJ, Apple hit a market cap of $3 trillion during intraday trading on Monday. It was the first publicly traded US company to hit a $1 trillion market cap in 2018. Apple showed annual growth across all of its product categories in its fourth-quarter earnings. Investors remain bullish, with many predicting more growth in the near future. Apple’s peers aren’t far behind, with Microsoft worth about $2.5 trillion, Google about $2 trillion, and Amazon around $1.75 trillion.

Robinhood still intends to go public on Thursday. The company is subject to at least 49 class-action lawsuits over its restriction of the purchase of GameStop stock in January. It is under investigation by a series of regulators, state attorneys general, the SEC, and the US Department of Justice. The company’s CEO had his cell phone seized by federal attorneys. Robinhood acknowledges that the fallout from its restrictions has the potential to be disastrous for the company.

Washington D.C., the Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that Gurbir S. Grewal has been appointed Director of the Division of Enforcement, effective July 26, 2021. Grewal currently serves as Attorney General for the State of New Jersey, a role he has held since January 2018, when he was confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate after being nominated by Governor Phil Murphy.

Ridgewood NJ, the stock market had been predicting that the Biden Administration would call for a 28% capital gains tax, so when the word came out last week that he wants a 43% capital gains tax, it triggered a stock sell off.  A share of stock is simply worth its after-tax and after-inflation rate of return, so a higher capital gains tax (combined with and a higher corporate tax) translates into lower stock values, by definition.

NEWARK NJ, An investment fund manager was arrested today in connection with an alleged $100 million securities fraud scheme, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Brenda Smith, 59, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is charged by complaint with four counts of wire fraud and one count of securities fraud. Smith was arrested in Philadelphia and is scheduled to appear this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor in Newark federal court.
