Ridgewood NJ, I found this in my Sunday copy of The Record.  Did anyone else get one? What does this really mean?
I’ve seen no notice in The Record about the acquisition of a new company.Very strange.
Meanwhile ,The Villadom Times shut its doors overnight a few months back. They owner couldn’t even find a buyer who was willing to pay one dollar for the paper. The Ridgewood News and the Suburban News seem to be carrying fewer and fewer ads. I can’t remember the last time I saw an advertisement of any substance in the NY Times’ sports section. Classified advertising in The Record is minimal. The company that owns the Star Ledger and the Jersey Journal just had massive layoffs. And the local Gannett papers just plain suck.

  1. Villadom Times situation was bizarre. They simply stopped publishing without even running an editorial thanking everybody for all the wonderful years. Did they give employees any notice or just lock the door and eliminate their email access?

  2. Employees were given one day notice at Villadom Times.

  3. We were handed a note from the NYT delivery guy…Sunday was his last day…

  4. I believe the “loan reporter” is still a regular visitor to Village meetings. It that tall lanky friendly guy. Perhaps you could post a photo of him.
    Dom.

  5. Sign of the times. Print media is rapidly dying. Just take a look around you on commuter buses and trains. Not a newspaper in sight. Absolutely everyone has their face buried in a phone/tablet/laptop.

  6. Declan, you are so right. Long live the blog! Rurik will not be able to stand it when most news comes to us via the Internet.
