Newark NJ, on Sunday, 3/14/21, New Jersey Transit Police Officers Martinez, Pena-Perez, Ydo, and Mastrofilipo were on patrol at Newark Penn Station. The officers observed a man lying prone inside a restroom stall. Finding the man unconscious, they forced open the stall and removed him for treatment. They discovered that the man was near death. He was suffering an asphyxiation episode and exhibited signs of an impending overdose.
The officers acted quickly to provide treatment. They administered Naloxone and also administered oxygen to help the man breathe. After several minutes, the man would respond. The overdose was reversed. The officers continued to ensure the man’s well-being until EMS arrived.
