Ridgewiid NJ, A Village of Ridgewood sanitation truck collided with a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Prospect Street and Durar Avenue in Ridgewood at approximately 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 7. No injuries were reported in the crash, either to the three (3) person Village sanitation crew, or to the Camry’s driver. Although the Toyota sustained heavy passenger side damage, it was able to be driven from the scene. The sanitation vehicle was driven back to the Village’s garage for temporary repairs that enabled it to continue on its route. There is a stop sign present at the intersection, but there was no word from police on the scene as to whether any summonses were issued in connection with the crash.
Ever watch as these drivers of these trucks think they own the road.
Let me guess that one or both drivers were texting. Let me also guess that the cops did not check the phones because the law will not allow them to.
Be fair James, those drivers do double work ….. driving and doing pick ups on the same route.
It’s dangerous work for one man to do double duties.
A trainee helper here would be acceptable by the Village Mgr. I’m sure.
yes so true. why do we have one person on some trucks. that is not safe. the new manager should look in to that. the old recycling boss started that bull shit. what was he thinking. no wonder the workers on the sanitation and recycling and yard wast are getting beet up.
The sanitation workers are in a hurry to get the job done since they are paid on ‘task work’.
If they finish early, they can go home early.
That’s why you see one guy putting all the bags into big piles with no truck in sight, then the truck arrives with the single driver to pick up the piles of bags, hopefully before the crows start ripping them open.
Also, the trucks like to drive around in reverse for whatever reason.

I definitely think speed is a big problem with safety. I regularly see these guys, who arem by the way, very nice men. However, because of the work day end when they finish the route, means they work like athletes. The speed in which they perform this process is quite something to watch. I’m guessing that these guys have a second job that they are in a hurry to get to, which is their incentive for finishing the route as fast as they can.
