Ridgewood NJ, Citing their need to preserve the appearance and structural integrity of a “magnificently beautiful structure,” Village Council members have opted not to install protective fencing of any kind at the Hudson Street Parking Garage.
During a public Work Session Meeting held on Wednesday night, Council members were presented with several protective fencing design and pricing options, none of which the group found appealing.
Despite numerous reported instances of juveniles throwing objects from the garage’s 4th level, Council members felt that the more important issue at hand was to prevent individuals from sitting on the structure’s top wall.
To that end, Council members have requested pricing and drawings/photographs of bird spikes and decorative railings.
More to come folks! Stay tuned.
An accident waiting to happen. They will be sorry for letting aesthetics trump safety.
yup.
Can’t wait for the liability lawsuits ESPECIALLY since they made these statements showing a conscious decision to “disregard safety for aesthetics”
It’s not the Taj Mahal, it’s a ugly parking garage. Put up the friggin fence!
“magnificently beautiful structure” HAHAHA
I say let’s throw more money at the white elephant.
I loved it when somebody who called in called it a giant behemoth or a big hulk or something like that. There is nothing beautiful about a parking garage end of story
The garage is a “magnificent” mistake and last night’s attempt to address safety concerns was a failure.
West Bergen mental health is right around the corner. It is not going to be a pretty scene.
We live in crazy times.
Fencing on top off walls, but legalize pot.
Can still throw things over the spikes.
Thanks to R. Moan and others on the council past and present, we are saddled with a 25 year debt while he drives around in his Porsches and scores a choice gig as county freeloader.
We should airlift the garage to Habernickel.
Not to mention that there are structural issues regarding the garage and it is hardly being used. At the meeting on Wednesday , some form of guard railing was mention for the top deck that was not considered after it was said by the company representative that drilling the holes could cause some structural damage to the existing wall which sounded a bit alarming.
Here’s the entire discussion about the issue of protective fencing.

From what we are hearing that a lot of contractors are staying away. They do not want to go and start drilling into the concrete they don’t need to liability. Sometimes things are just not worth it. Maybe the village can come up with some temporary fencing. Or guard rail something it might look cheesy but We are suggesting do not tamper with that one big erector set.
IF ONLY SOMEONE HAD WARNED THE VC THAT THIS GARAGE WOULD BE A BIG MISTAKE!
… Oh well, missed opportunity 🙂
The council could take turns guarding the garage. Lol
