Northvale Police Sergeant Charged With Stealing $75,000 in PBA Funds

Northvale NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of CHARLES J. AMOROSSO (DOB: 9/06/1986; married; police sergeant) of Northvale, NJ on a charge of theft. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.

On February 25, 2022, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that Northvale Police Department Sergeant CHARLES AMOROSSO made cash withdrawals and transferred money out of multiple PBA (Police Benevolent Association) bank accounts without authorization. An investigation revealed that, in his role as treasurer of the PBA, AMOROSSA used PBA funds in excess of $75,000 for his own personal benefit.

As the result of the investigation, on April 25, 2022, CHARLES AMOROSSO was charged with second-degree theft, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a. AMOROSSO was suspended from his duties as a police officer, and is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 8:30 a.m.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
