Ridgewood NJ, according to the Ridgewood Police Department as of Tuesday there have been a total of 12 motor vehicles stolen from our village this year. This number does not include the numerous attempts that have been thwarted by our department, citizens, or unsuccessful because the vehicle was locked. In ALL cases, the vehicles have had or are believed to have had a key fob left in the vehicle. In some cases, the vehicle was running but not occupied.
The rising concern that we must share with our community is that we are seeing car thefts leading to more serious crimes throughout NJ. As evidenced by surrounding towns, when the criminal element has such a level of success in our communities they begin to commit burglaries, carjackings, and other crimes that may lead to people’s safety being in jeopardy.
We work very hard to keep our community safe but we need your help.
Please lock your cars and take the keys inside.
Please take your valuables inside.
Please call us if you see something suspicious.
Please be safe.
Stupid is as stupid does. Take your friggin’ keys people!
If insurance companies would refuse to pay in cases where the vehicle was left open or where the fob was left in the vehicle, this would come to a stop (after the initial sob stories).
hmmmmm…. Ridgewood residents?
Ah Yes….
