Paramus NJ, the NY Post is reporting that Fairway Market, the famous New York grocer that has been a staple on the Upper West Side for nearly a century, is on the verge of filing for bankruptcy once again again, The Post has learned that Fairway is now preparing to seek bankruptcy protection this month after failing to find a buyer for its 14 stores.
Fairway has been quietly closing stores with the most recent shuttering in Nanuet, New York, a 65,000-square-foot store that closed in September. Sources say another two stores in New Jersey one in Paramus and one in Woodland Park are likely next on the chopping block.
With all of the competion around, the stores need to be clean, resources helpful and the prices competitive and by all means the checkout needs to be fast. They fail in all those categories. Parking is good.
You don’t do it right, your gone.
I went into the Paramus store once.
It was so poorly designed it was a joke.
And to top it off the pricing was absurd.
Yes it was very expensive. And number two they were only hiring minorities very interesting.
The Paramus store was great when it started. The prices were excellent and it was just a breath of fresh air in an area of not so great supermarkets. The problem was, they expanded way too quickly and became engulfed in debt. The debt service forced them to raise prices and cut corners.
Just heard that Stew Leonard’s isn’t doing as well as they expected at Paramus Park. Reportedly, they’ve cut the total weekly working hours of every part time employee.
When they first opened, the place was mobbed. Lately, every time I’ve been in there, the store is virtually empty. Poor design/layout, just like Fairway. And, overpriced, just like Fairway.
Shop Rite remains my go to store.
Yes ShopRite will always be the king. Why because they are on their own warehouses. They are on their own truckS , And they own their own stores.
The Red Hook store has the worse produce of any supermarket in NYC. The store is horribly managed, the employees are either incompetent or horribly trained or both. It’s closure will not be a loss.

Stew Leonard over rated. Advertise low prices for meat but its Select vs Choice or Prime. Low quality meat. Easier and less expensive to go to local supermarket vs the mall.
stews is buried in the Sears grave area
Way off beaten path
Difficult to reach outside of GSP EXIT south into the macys mall area
The new valley hospital build out might help esp if Fairway folds which
We all hope wont happen.Fairway has a niche operation there
