Ridgewood NJ, In response to an Open Public Records Act request I recently submitted to the Bergen County Clerk’s Office, I have just received a list containing the last name, first name, middle initial, and street address for every Ridgewood voter whose mail in ballot was REJECTED in connection with the May 12, 2020 Board of Education, Board of Education Budget, and Village Council General Election.
The list contains the names of 710 voters. That is, 710 of the ballots submitted for the aforementioned election were rejected/not counted. The reasons for rejection are not specified in the document I received. However, many appear to have been received after the specified cut off date of Thursday, May 14, 2020.If my calculations are correct, approximately 15% of the total ballots submitted were rejected/not counted. Wow! That’s alarming, to say the least. I do not know whether the County Clerk’s Office has a notification process in place for rejected ballots. Thus, some of these voters may not know that their ballot was rejected.
This could have changed the election result for Sergio vs Pam parrone.
So upsetting

This threatens our democratic process. We need to ensure we have checks in place to make certain we are acting in accordance with the voters. The next public session is June 10, should we ask this be included as an agenda topic for discussion? Anyone else available to attend and raise awareness during public comments?
In my opinion, we should ask the Council and the County to disclose the rejection reasons to the public. And going forward if the quantity of rejected ballots could have made a material difference in the results, that should be brought to the public’s attention immediately. It is concerning that I am receiving this information via a private blog instead of a Village or County announcement. Regardless of how you voted or which political ideology you associate with, this is troubling as it compromises our democratic process.
Anyone feel differently on this matter and/or have any other suggestions?
Ha. This will be used as an excuse to show that indeed the budget most likely would have passed and so we should cut a deal where we cut a few $ (almost nothing) off the budget so both sides get satisfied.
Funny how people seem to think that their losing candidate or budget would automatically win if the discarded ballots get counted. Not gonna happen. Outcome will be the same.
Ballots are rejected for numerous reasons, including being received after the statutory deadline. Each voter whose ballot was rejected will get a letter which states the reason for rejection.
This is it. A recount should be ordered. That will change the result in Sergio’s favor.

My ballot was rejected because the post office did not affix a postmark. It was delivered by the deadline though it was one week from when it was mailed. That is simply unacceptable!
The list requester has too much time on his/her hands. May I suggest you spend your time chasing off the one homeless man in town? That way you and your friends won’t be so scared to visit the CBD when things open up. While you’re running him out of town, you’ll get a little exercise. Win-win.

That’s statistically unlikely given the large sample size and the fact that the election dynamics can be modeled as a martingale!

Anonymous, it is not a matter of “want Sergio”. If these 700 ballots were not counted and if he stands a chance to win, they should be counted. Looking at the names on this list, I personally think if these ballots are counted, he will win.

I just found out my ballot was rejected. I found out through a friend. I mailed my ballot on time at the Ridgewood Post Office. It was my signature. Everyone who is on the list deserves an explanation why their ballot was rejected, so that if it is a legitimate reason, they can correct it moving forward.
And the democrats are pushing mail in for November. It Seems as though Governor Murphy the dictator has said no in person voting come November.
