RIDGEWOOD — The village and its Zoning Board of Adjustment are named in a lawsuit filed earlier this month by the owners of the Exxon Mobil station on Route 17.

The suit, filed in Bergen County’s Superior Court, seeks a court order “restraining” the development of a nearby parcel of land.

The land being developed is now the site of a Shell filling station, but the owners want to raze the property and install updated gas pumps and construct a 2,000 square-foot 7-Eleven convenience store.

Those plans received approval from the Zoning Board of Adjustment seven months ago.  The suit seeks to reverse the board’s decision.

  1. I won’t buy gas at a station that has different prices for cash or credit
That’s why I stopped going to Exxon stations

    1. where do you buy gas then?????????????

  2. I read this article by ace cub reporter Chris Harris in the Record this morning. Could Exxon/Mobil’s real complaint be that the Shell station has better access and visibility from two roadways which they lack? They say that all you need to file a law suit is a pencil, I guess that’s true in this case. The merchants at both stations are unfriendly anyway, it couldn’t happen to a better bunch of guys.

  3. The station next to Wendy’s in Paramus which might be an Exxon or the Speedway (formerly Hess), the prices are typically 5¢ to 10¢ cheaper per gallon.

  4. I’ve never understood when anyone buys gas at any of the Ridgewood gas stations. I think I had to once, because of failing to notice that I was beyond empty. The prices are always significantly more than stations a little further away.

  5. That Hess station on R17 South was the only station around open for business after Superstorm Sandy….

  6. Get an Exxon credit card you always get the cash price and if you use more than 45 gallons per month you also get six cents off. Also can be used at all Mobil stations. Gas stations were open on the parkway in Montvale after sandy.

  7. Pricing at the Route 17 Shell station isn’t that bad if you have points accumulated from Stop & Shop purchases.

  8. I’ll have to ask 10:09. I have an Exxon Mobil card and speed pass but was unaware that your statement was accurate…if it was the stations would be posting it
So Mobil on rt 17 do not charge different prices and that’s where I buy gas

  9. Just to note, Speedway (former Hess) no longer has free air but charges $1 now

  10. Hess didn’t have free air either.

  11. @11:45, both local Hess (and all Hess) provided free air machines.
