Hackensack NJ, the Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural & Historic Affairs is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Bergen County Historic Preservation Awards. Each May, in honor of National Historic Preservation Month, the Historic Preservation Awards are presented to properties, people, and organizations that have made a difference in preserving Bergen County’s long history. The Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs (DCHA) and the Bergen County Historic Preservation Advisory Board coordinate the selection effort.

Trenton NJ, In a lame-duck session of the legislature, the New Jersey Senate and Assembly are trying to move legislation that would completely upend apprenticeship training programs in the state. Supporters claim it will strengthen provisions of the “Public Works Contractor Registration Act” and require certification of compliance with federal requirements for apprenticeship programs. But what it really does is penalize New Jersey merit shop contractors who do public works, meaning minorities and women hardest hit.

Teaneck NJ, an amendment to the master plan that could lead to a complete overhaul to the current Holy Name Medical Center was approved by the planning board and sent to the council for consideration Thursday night. The changes could lead to a major expansion of the hospital’s facilities, complete with two nine-story hospital buildings near the existing hospital, three medical office buildings and other changes over the course of the next two decades.

Trenton NJ, after a whole summer of social unrest over police and community relations the NJ Senate Law and Public Safety Committee voted on legislation to loosen training requirements for new police officers. S4208 would allow municipal and county police departments to establish a nine-month probationary period for new officers, during which they could assume police duties without completing basic training.
