Reader says Obamacare Architect Ezekiel J. Emanuel  says Let Nature Take its Course and refuse all medical treatment after 75

Valley can build separate buildings. That’s what I thought it was doing. Buying up all that land.

It can use its present location for Maternity for example and other buildings for other things.

Don’t kid yourself no. 2. Cancer has NOT advanced very much since the 1950s. Get it and find out for yourself.

The best defense against heart disease is a very healthy lifestyle.

Life style is 80 percent of health which includes a healthy environment. No traffic pollution no poison on lawn that gets into water spoils ecology causes nerve damage and CANCER !!We should be discouraging traffic from CBD. POLLUTION. YIKES!!

There are many hospitals around this area that have the same wonderful!! easy cancer cures as Valley. We don’t need Valley here at all. Growing up I was 15 miles from a hospital and survived to tell about it.

Are you aware of what was on News Hour a few days ago, channel 13 with Judy Woodruff, and in the Atlantic magazine this past Sept.

A proposal, written by a bioethiscist that people age 75 refuse all medication because statistics of millions of people PROVE that after that age health declines very precipitously and painfully and the cost of prolonging life not worth it emotionally, physically. It’s very painful for most people. We’re talkin fancy western countries. Not to mention financial and using resources that would be best used to save young people. Very much antibiotics that are becoming and are ineffective now from overuse.

Now that would put Valley out of business so very fast. They are counting on sickies 80 years and over for their survival. They said so at meetings.

But UP UNITL ABout age 75 it’s mostly in our control. Very much so. If we keep the lifestyle and environment clean. If we don’t live the correct lifestyle Valley, can’t really do anything significant for us despite their hype.
Valley should spread out. with multiple buildings. Why are they such pigs.

War against Isis: US strategy in tatters as militants march on

America’s plans to fight Islamic State are in ruins as the militant group’s fighters come close to capturing Kobani and have inflicted a heavy defeat on the Iraqi army west of Baghdad.

The US-led air attacks launched against Islamic State (also known as Isis) on 8 August in Iraq and 23 September in Syria have not worked. President Obama’s plan to “degrade and destroy” Islamic State has not even begun to achieve success. In both Syria and Iraq, Isis is expanding its control rather than contracting.

Isis reinforcements have been rushing towards Kobani in the past few days to ensure that they win a decisive victory over the Syrian Kurdish town’s remaining defenders. The group is willing to take heavy casualties in street fighting and from air attacks in order to add to the string of victories it has won in the four months since its forces captured Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq, on 10 June. Part of the strength of the fundamentalist movement is a sense that there is something inevitable and divinely inspired about its victories, whether it is against superior numbers in Mosul or US airpower at Kobani.

Dr. Aileen Marty tells Fusion what she saw fighting Ebola in Nigeria

Dr. Aileen Marty tells Fusion what she saw fighting Ebola in Nigeria
By AMERICA WITH JORGE RAMOS @ThisIsAmerica

The Ebola outbreak continues to spiral out of control. Near the epicenter of the epidemic in West Africa, more than 3,400 people have died and more than 7,000 people have been infected with the virus. Officials are scrambling to contain the outbreak at its source and keep it from spreading.

The World Health Organization is sending doctors to countries where the virus is most prevalent — Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. Fusion’s Jorge Ramos spoke to one of the doctors, Dr. Aileen Marty, who recently returned home to Miami after spending 31 days in Nigeria. She says she was surprised what happened when she arrived at Miami International Airport.

“I get to the kiosk…mark the fact that I’ve been in Nigeria and nobody cares, nobody stopped me,” Marty said.

“Not a single test?” Ramos asked her, surprised.

“Nothing,” Marty answered.

The White House recently announced it would implement additional measures for screening passengers coming into the U.S. from Ebola-stricken countries. New screenings will start at five major airports across the country, including New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C., Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta.

Ridgewood Girls Cross-Country impressive at Shore Coaches Invitational

The Ridgewood News

Each year, for preparation purposes, the Ridgewood High School girls cross-country team enters the Shore Coaches Invitational on the first Saturday in October.

The Maroons’ main goal is to log some miles on the Holmdel Park course that hosts state-championship meets at season’s end. The Invitational also affords them an early opportunity to see where they stack up against statewide competition.

The verdict from Saturday’s Shore championship division race? RHS is in a short stack.

Led by junior Sam Halvorsen and senior Carleen Jeffers, Ridgewood averaged 20:17 per runner and finished second to Red Bank Catholic, 50-71, while holding off Princeton (72 points) and West Windsor-Plainsboro South (73).

“We had a great day,” Maroon coach Jacob Brown commented on his website. He added that “171 schools entered the seven varsity races, and 124 finished with team scores. We were second overall on a time basis.”

Several World Series rings and two American League MVP plaques belonging to baseball legend Yogi Berra were stolen from the museum that carries his name in a heist that could be worth near $1 million.

The prized possessions of one of baseball’s greatest catchers were stolen early Wednesday morning when a group of thieves broke into Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls to burglarize the museum at Montclair State University that houses some of Berra’s most prized possessions.

No other items appeared to be stolen, said Montclair State Police Department Chief Paul Cell, whose department is leading an investigation now assisted by the county police and the FBI’s unit in Newark.

The plaques could be worth up to $350,000 a piece, according to Keith Vari of Paragon Auctions in Woodbridge. The value of the rings from his playing days might range from $80,000 to $100,000, while those from 1977 to 1978 may be worth $40,000.

The items are so iconic it’s likely impossible someone could pawn them – especially without a letter of authenticity. Still, area pawnshops are aware of the break-in, and Essex County has offered a $15,000 reward – up from $5,000 Wednesday after receiving anonymous donations – for any information about the theft that could lead to an arrest.

How Awesome Would the U.S. Economy Be If It Were Set Free from Massive Government Regulations?

How Awesome Would the U.S. Economy Be If It Were Set Free from Massive Government Regulations?

IImagine if the U.S.’s economy had grown an extra 1% every year since 1949 as a result from less strangulating federal regulation.

This is the thesis for a recent Forbes article by Rich Karlgaard, the magazine’s publisher and head writer. Using the concept of compound interest, along with an assertion that runaway federal tinkering and silly regulations have had a massive impact on the country’s economic growth over the decades, he gives a handful of answers to the question:

“Where would the U.S. economy be today without massive federal regulation?”

Here’s what he came up with:

The 2014 GDP would be $32 trillion, not $17 trillion.
Per capita income would be $101,000, not $54,000.
Per capita wealth would be $480,000, not $260,000. It would probably be higher than that, since savings rates might be higher.
The U.S. would have no federal, state or municipal debts or deficits.
Pensions would be solid. So would Social Security.
The trend of new entrants to The Forbes 400 would not favor entrepreneurs in software, the Internet and financial services but would be more broadly distributed across all industries. Electronic bits–money and software–are less prone to regulation than such physical things as factories, transportation, etc.
Faster, quieter successors to the supersonic Concorde? Cheap, safe nuclear power? Cancer-curing drugs for small populations? Bullet trains financed by private investors? Yes!
The U.S. would have the resources to fight the multiplicity of threats from abroad, from ISIS to hackers.

His conclusion is that when considering political leaders, those that are committed to less government interference should be preferred.

Furthermore, he wisely points out that it’s not a partisan idea, stating that Kennedy, Reagan, and Clinton are examples of these types of leaders, whereas Truman, George W. Bush, and Obama are examples of precisely the opposite.

Public wins access to police videos after NJ judge rules they’re subject to open records laws

Videos recorded by police cameras should be made available to the public under the state’s open records laws, a Superior Court judge ruled in two separate trial court opinions released Friday.

The rulings are part of the emerging legal framework concerning who can access videos made by police. The use of police cameras is set to expand in New Jersey. Governor Christie signed a law last month that mandates police wear body cameras or have them installed in new cars primarily used for traffic stops. In addition, a state senator has said he will introduce legislation to equip all patrol officers in the state with body cameras.

Friday’s rulings stemmed from two Ocean County cases and featured similar facts — someone was pulled over by an officer driving a cruiser equipped with a dashboard video camera. In each case, a member of the public had questions about the circumstances of the police stop and requested a copy of the tape — a request that local officials denied.

New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act allows members of the public to ask for records unless those records fall under any of the law’s 21 exceptions. Superior Court Judge Vincent J. Grasso said the recordings must be released. Representatives for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said appeals are planned.

Formal rules for how the footage from police cameras will be stored and shared are still being developed. Friday’s rulings are not the first of their kind in the state, but they are part of a small series of decisions aimed at established police cameras’ practical use.

CLIFTON – Coming into the season, Ridgewood knew it had to make the most of the first half of the schedule. With a young and inexperienced team, the Maroons had five winnable games to open the year.

The quintet was completed Friday night as Ridgewood scored on the first play from scrimmage and never looked back. The 47-12 defeat of Clifton sets up an intriguing matchup next week with Paramus, the first team with a winning record the Maroons will face.

“Now we’ll find out how good we are,” Ridgewood coach Chuck Johnson said. “I can tell you that we are a whole lot better than we were at the beginning of the season, but just how good will be determined.”

The Maroons certainly took care of winless Clifton, which was playing its first game at the newly renovated Joseph Grecco Field. After the opening kickoff went out of bounds, Drew Granski was able to stretch out a sweep left and find a hole, racing 65 yards for a touchdown.

Ridgewood Should Continue Common Core discussions
Christina Krauss

to the Editor:

I would like to extend my sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Ridgewood Cares About Schools (RCAS) and the League of Women Voters-Ridgewood for putting together a standing-room-only forum last Thursday evening.

The panel assembled was stellar. Educational luminaries Drs. Sandra Stotsky and Christopher Tienken along with Ridgewood’s own Jean McTavish engaged in the first honest discussion on the Common Core State Standards and PARCC testing we have heard in either the district or the state. The president of the NJ State Board of Education, the assistant commissioner of the NJ Department of Education and a spokesperson for the NJ School Boards Association, entities that normally do not “discuss” the policies they issue, were queried by the public. The exchange was riveting and enlightening.

My sincere hope is that our district will become a leader in bringing to its citizens and the surrounding communities continued discussion on Common Core and all its ancillary issues. Data privacy, exhaustive testing/reporting and the harmful effect of CCSS/PARCC on early learners are but a few of the legitimate concerns parents are expressing.

The discussion is long overdue.

RIDGEWOOD — The Planning Board tabled discussion on a possible master plan amendment permitting multifamily housing downtown until next month, when residents will get their first chance to weigh in on the proposal.

Talks will resume at the board’s meeting on Nov. 3, when the village’s planner, Blais Brancheau, is expected to present his own analysis on the potential master plan changes.

The proposed amendment is being sought by three developers, who want to build multifamily housing complexes in Ridgewood.

Brancheau will likely face questions from the public after giving his report next month, and almost certainly will face cross-examination by attorneys for the developers, who all have active applications pending before the board.

China Just Overtook The US As The World’s Largest Economy

China Just Overtook The US As The World’s Largest Economy

Sorry, America. China just overtook the US to become the world’s largest economy, according to the International Monetary Fund.

Chris Giles at the Financial Times flagged up the change. He also alerted us in April that it was all about to happen.

Basically, the method used by the IMF adjusts for purchasing power parity, explained here.

The simple logic is that prices aren’t the same in each country: A shirt will cost you less in Shanghai than in San Francisco, so it’s not entirely reasonable to compare countries without taking this into account. Though a typical person in China earns a lot less than the typical person in the US, simply converting a Chinese salary into dollars underestimates how much purchasing power that individual, and therefore that country, might have. The Economist’s Big Mac Index is a great example of these disparities.

So the IMF measures both GDP in market-exchange terms and in terms of purchasing power. On the purchasing-power basis, China is overtaking the US right about now and becoming the world’s biggest economy.

We’ve just gone past that crossover on the chart below, according to the IMF. By the end of 2014, China will make up 16.48% of the world’s purchasing-power adjusted GDP (or $17.632 trillion), and the US will make up just 16.28% (or $17.416 trillion):

NJ Senate Candidate Bell praises Christie for halting budget busting tunnel project to Macy’s Basement

The Record

Governor Christie’s decision to halt construction on new Hudson River commuter tunnels “looks pretty good in retrospect,” even as damage from Superstorm Sandy is now expected to cause more delays during upcoming repair work, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate said Wednesday.

Jeffrey Bell, speaking to The Record’s editorial board, also said he considers Christie’s success with Latinos last year during his bid for reelection a model, adding he favors comprehensive immigration reform even if other Republicans nationally have taken a firmer position on the issue.

“It makes us seem — I mean the Republican Party — completely unwelcoming,” Bell said of the stances some other GOP candidates have taken.

Bell, a 70-year-old former aide to Ronald Reagan, is trying to upset incumbent U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, a Democrat who is ahead in the race, according to the most recent public opinion polls. Christie headlined a fundraiser for Bell on Tuesday and Bell, who lost bids for the Senate in 1978 and 1982, said the Republican governor “has been very helpful.”

Bell didn’t try to distance himself from Christie’s 2010 decision to stop work on the new tunnels, which the governor said would have exposed New Jersey to billions of dollars in potential cost overruns.

CDC could quarantine U.S. citizens for weeks if they refuse Ebola screenings
Non-citizens could be turned back
By Olivier Knox 3 hours ago Yahoo News

U.S. citizens who refuse to undergo the new screenings for Ebola at five major American airports could find themselves held in quarantine for up to three weeks, officials told Yahoo News on Thursday. Non-citizens who refuse the screenings could be quarantined or turned away from U.S. soil by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The Obama Administration announced on Wednesday that it would soon require passengers from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone — the countries at the epicenter of the deadly outbreak in West Africa — to answer questions about their potential exposure to the illness and to have their temperature taken upon arrival.

Officials unveiled the new rules hours after the only patient thus far diagnosed with Ebola on U.S. soil, Thomas Eric Duncan, died of the illness. Neighbors said he helped a pregnant woman in Liberia get to a hospital, where she was turned away from a crowded Ebola treatment ward. Liberian government officials said they planned to prosecute him for lying on health forms by denying any contact with an Ebola patient.
