Paramus NJ, on Tuesdays municipal elections in Paramus, there have been notable changes in the Borough Council composition and the all-Republican makeup. Here are the key outcomes:

  • Borough Council incumbent Democrat MariaElena Bellinger was not re-elected, resulting in her removal from the council.
  • Republican incumbent Alfredo Nadera retained his seat on the council.
  • Republican Mary Ellen Rizzo was elected as the new council member.

As a result of these election results, the Paramus Borough Council will be composed entirely of Republican members. This includes the mayoral position, which was won by Christopher DiPiazza last year, defeating MariaElena Bellinger for the spot. The former Democratic Mayor Richard LaBarbiera did not seek re-election.

The unofficial tallies indicate a significant shift in the council’s political makeup, with Republicans now holding all the seats. These election outcomes have implications for the local governance and decision-making in Paramus.

  1. That’s all well and good the damage is done, and there’s no going back. The town of Paramus has become a city, full of oversized homes that do not belong on the block, way too much traffic, stores, deck, comeing, Gold, just one big revolving door. You can’t even keep up with the stores that come and go. And at the end of the day there’s no town, you’re living somewhere with a bunch of County roads. I have traffic on the 24 seven. One of the biggest major busiest highways in the United States. I was talking with the EPA last month the pollution levels on Route 17 and Route four have exploded and where do you think that’s going right into your home. It’s like living in New York City they told me. So I say no thank you.

    1. Paramus has chosen the path of development in exchange for lower property taxes for over 50 years now. I don’t think it has anything to do with Democrats or Republicans. Maybe now they just want lower taxes and to keep porn out of elementary school lessons.

  2. Damage has been done and is beyond repair. There is nothing to save. Perhaps Paramus libs who are now seeing the damage and is hitting home are seeking a way to remedy things but that’s IMPOSSIBLE. Certain Paramus areas closer to RT17 are worse than NYC itself. RT 17 most of the time resembles FDR drive during rush hour. It will only get worse.
On the other hand RW still has sth to save but will continue voting blue by vast majority instead of thinking local.

  3. We can’t go back but we can certainly try to stop the continued overdevelopment. I don’t care whether it’s Republicans or Democrats in office as long as they halt the overdevelopment and building of massive homes. I agree, these massive homes don’t belong in the old neighborhoods, but I think Paramus is allowing it due to the increased tax revenue. They won’t be happy until all the small homes are torn down and replaced with mega mansions. Oh, and don’t stop there. Continue building high rise buildings with mixed use. Shove as much as you can into every square foot of land. And now the Paramus Environmental Commission is considering a townwide composting program to save $ for the town and help the environment . Are you kidding? Town officials are not concerned about the environment. If they were, they wouldn’t allow this overdevelopment. How sad and laughable.
