Paramus NJ, the Paramus planning board granted approval on Thursday for the first phase of a redevelopment initiative poised to potentially reshape the Garden State Plaza. The approved plan envisions introducing a hotel, medical offices, a transit center, and nearly 1,400 apartments and senior housing units to the property.

In a unanimous decision, the board greenlit the initial stage, focusing on the construction of two five-story mixed-use buildings. These structures will incorporate 575 housing units and approximately 50,000 square feet of retail space. The collaborative effort involves mall owner Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield and Mill Creek Residential Trust LLC, with the development set to take shape in the mall’s western parking lot.

The board’s approval remains contingent on the removal of closets from proposed dens in the development. Despite this condition, barn doors are allowed to remain. Concerns were raised during Thursday’s meeting and previous sessions that the inclusion of closets in dens might prompt residents to convert these spaces into bedrooms.

  1. Hey, I understand these moles and retail just can’t keep up with the expense. Unfortunately, for the town of Paramus political party, that’s running the machine just doesn’t care about walls anymore. They want strip mall, and more housing, which we are all seeing the best three years. And a lot more to come in the future, if you think it’s bad now you just wait until Garden State Plaza is done with housing Paramus Park Mall housing, and a few other sites, it will be the city of Paramus

          2. Or it could be the “T” in “Retard” for you. Only retards would be fine with super high density housing in and around town.
