Parking Garage: Residents of Ridgewood, hang onto your wallets, here it comes

Regarding “Parking garage work could start in spring” (Page L-3, Nov. 6):

Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn’s rhetoric is changing as fast as the leaves are falling. Until recently, Ridgewood residents were repeatedly told by him that property taxes would absolutely not be used to fund the garage. Many were skeptical, since significant cost overruns and expensive change orders frequently populate Ridgewood Village Council agendas.

In the above article, the mayor’s quotes now indicate that he is wavering, as he states, “Costs could be entirely supported by parking revenues” and that his “aim is that it should not be paid for using tax revenue.”

As he now notes, the “Village parking utility would be on the hook if the garage failed.” Residents of Ridgewood, hang onto your wallets, here it comes.

  1. Could, but maybe not. Would, but might not. Should, but will not.

    Let’s just face it,Aronsohn is a liar.Plain and simple.

  2. Funny how a guarantee taxes wouldn’t be used is now only an aim.

  3. What did people expect our mayor and his two stooges would not know the truth if it bit them in the ass.

  4. An opportunist tells the truth as it helps HIM.

  5. It’s actually four of them meaning Roberta. It’s the mayor and his three lying stooges.

  6. Anyone who thought otherwise is naive. I read a handful of posts on the Facebook page “It Takes a Ridgewood Village” that were sickeningly self-righteous about voting yes on parking. The posts said that opposing points of view were based on lies and anyone opposed was ignorant – the same sort of condescending rhetoric that we got from Valley and the Apartment developers. One of the developers’ wives even chimed in about “finally telling the truth.” Well the truth is out righteous ones. Be careful what you wish for – they are indeed coming for your wallet.

  7. Why wouldn’t residents lie and developers and self-styled politicians tell the truth? Of course.

  8. I suppose you all heard Saracino’s attorney at the VC meeting. Tonight. PUKE

  9. My prediction is: that the garage will be built, there will be significant cost overruns just like village hall, money will be taken from NJ Transit and Bergen County to ease the burden, the garage will be open to all commuters from all towns, that the taxpayers will end up subsidizing the garage as revenues will not cover debt service, and that there will be no improvement in the parking problem in town since the garage will be filled with out of town commuters.

  10. It won’t improve the parking for those wanting to use most of the CBD because it’s location sucks.

  11. @9:29 you forgot a something – The Plan calls for raising the meter rates and hours of operation – so, “The Aronsohn” will provide parking to a select few cars in one corner of downtown, but The rest of the area doesn’t get any parking, but does get increased rates and increased inconvenience of having to feed the meter to 9 instead of 6. Where does one park to see a movie for example? Unless its an 8:00pm show what are you supposed to do? – run out and feed the meter?

  12. 1:02 – You are supposed to go out and get a smart phone, even if you don’t own or want one, then get an account with Park Mobile and risk having your credit card information stolen every time you wave your phone in front of a meter. You will also be treated to a $.35 fee every time you do this, just a little something extra for you expenses. Albert says it is oh so handy, of course he does not care about money because he has a ton of it, but not all of us are so wealthy. Alternately, you can go to the movies in Paramus and park for free. Sounds easier to me.
