Ramsey NJ, a tragic incident occurred Monday morning when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train near the Ramsey station, leading to significant service disruptions on NJ Transit’s rail lines.
Details of the Incident
At approximately 9:15 a.m., NJ Transit train No. 56 on the Port Jervis Line struck a pedestrian just east of the Ramsey station, according to NJ Transit spokesperson Kyalo Mulumba. The train had departed Port Jervis at 7:39 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 9:52 a.m.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 10 passengers and crew members on board the train.
Service Disruptions
As of 11 a.m., NJ Transit suspended service on the Port Jervis, Main, and Bergen County lines in both directions between Suffern and Waldwick.
Currently Port Jervis, Bergen County and Main Line rail service is operating on or close to schedule in both directions with residual delays to trains already enroute following an earlier pedestrian fatality near Ramsey.
Ongoing Investigation
The NJ Transit Police are leading the investigation into the incident. Further details regarding the pedestrian have not been released at this time.
