Local authorities are investigating a late-night collision involving a private tour bus that turned fatal in Ridgefield, New Jersey. The tragic incident, which drew a large response from local emergency services and county prosecutors, remains under active investigation. Here is what we know so far about the crash.

Late-Night Tour Bus Collision at Broad and Maple Avenues

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident occurred on Tuesday night at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The Ridgefield Police Department responded to urgent calls regarding a serious motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Broad Avenue and Maple Avenue.

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders located a 76-year-old male pedestrian who had sustained severe injuries after being struck by a private tour bus.

Victim Succumbs to Injuries Following Hospitalization

Paramedics rushed the elderly victim to a nearby area hospital in critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, officials confirmed on Wednesday morning that the man had tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The identity of the 76-year-old Ridgefield-area victim is currently being withheld pending full notification of his family.

Fatal Accident Task Force Launches Investigation

The driver of the tour bus remained at the scene following the collision and is fully cooperating with law enforcement. Authorities noted that the driver was the only occupant on the commercial vehicle at the time of the crash.

Because the collision resulted in a fatality, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Task Force was deployed to the scene to head the ongoing investigation alongside Ridgefield detectives.

Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer stated that no additional details regarding potential charges, the name of the tour bus company, or the exact cause of the crash are available at this time.
