  1. At that stupid crosswalk, by any chance?

I drive across the street rather than using it.

  2. It appears they were in the crosswalk.

  3. I think it’s time to illuminate some of the parking in that area, years ago, there was never parking there

  4. At least the driver was safe (while texting; not paying attention to the BEAMING FLASHING yellow strobe crossing lights) in their Volvo. Volvos are all about safety, right?

  5. Name and shame! Name and shame!

  6. I heard RFD botched this one again. Called for an unnessecary helecopter. Too bad for the patients in this town

    1. Huh? Wasn’t the chopper cancelled well ahead of it even being close to Ridgewood?

    2. They do it on purpose. Anything to make it look like they can justify their existence. They would request 2 helicopters if they could get away with it.

      1. That’s mean and uncalled for. They do an amazing job.

        1. Not on my dime

  7. It was safer when the elks was there.
Did anyone notice the pedestrian sign on the elks side of the street? The “pedestrian ” had a martini in his hand! Ha! It was like that for years!

  8. Toxic online community here. The person died shortly afterwards.

    1. Is that true? Been thinking nonstop about the poor man and no one knows how he is

  9. That area has been a problem for a long time.

  10. Did driving over the speed limit have anything to do with this?

  11. Why is “that area” a particular problem? There is a lighted crosswalk and a crosswalk by both traffic lights. Its the people driving that are causing the problems – not paying attention, driving too fast etc

    1. Yeah.
The pedestrians should not be required to be personally responsible for their own safety.

Even if he was in the right
      and the driver was wrong,
the driver may even go to jail and his family may even get a big financial settlement.

      …but he’ll still be dead.

      Be aware people.
Ultimately you are responsible for your own life.

  12. Practically every area in town is a problem area, but especially the intersections that require drivers to ‘honor’ pedestrian right-of-way. Drivers even blithely roll right through stop signs and occasionally waive at the pedestrians as if to say ‘oops’ and ‘thanks for letting ME go’. I’ve seen it too many times to count.

When people are too selfish and too stupid to care, allowing people to guess at the rules (which don’t apply to them anyway) is bad news, i.e. install traffic lights everywhere. Of course, this is the same place that thinks it’s a dandy idea to have live music downtown Sunday nights until 11:30PM, etc.

Hoping Santa delivers a lot of booster shots to 07450 this season.

    1. …or be personally responsible for your own life and be alert and expect drivers to not always follow the rules.

    2. Wish you would have written more clearly so I might understand your points.

  13. How is the person. Is he ok.

  14. And from what I’ve experienced throughout the CBD with pedestrians at times, just walking up the sidewalk riding to the street without looking is extremely foolish dress and just not smart. This subject comes up from time to time, and I just cannot understand help people just be that nice to walk in the street without looking both ways, I don’t get it. Now I’m not blaming anyone on this last accident. I’m just speaking in general that it is a concern, it is a problem, it needs to be addressed, the signage needs to be changed throughout the village to all pedestrians that are walking in a crosswalk to pull the ways before stepping off the curb into this road. And now another problem we have is people walking in between cars right into the street if they get it’s their responsibility not the driver. It is illegal to take him to life their hands. Maybe just maybe we need to lower the speed limit throughout the CBD. I do know in some other towns they have 20 miles an hour at some locations business sections. Just may help. Thanks.

    1. Agree with you but the issue is that there is zero enforcement. In all my years in town I have rarely seen anyone pulled over on the main thoroughfares leading in and out of town-Glen, Maple, Linwood, Ridgewood Ave and N Monroe. Other towns, like Waldwick have frequent enforcement. When you drive to the Superdome in Waldwick, you absolutely know to keep your speed at 25, because there are police officers giving tickets frequently. Same with Franklin Tpk in Waldwick. I do not understand why our limits are not enforced. That fact, combined with pedestrians being empowered to just walk out on the street in the crosswalk is a huge problem. I don’t know the details of the accident mentioned, but I do know that kids walk out without truly understanding the laws of physics and that you can’t stop your car on a dime when going 25 (or higher) when someone surprises you at a crosswalk in the middle of a block. Crosswalks on a corner are expected, those mid block may not be. I do understand there is signage at the crosswalk with the accident, and I do hope that the person who was hit is recovering.

  15. How about being a responsible driver and slowing down through town. Between busses, people unloading infants on the drivers side of the car, people crossing either in the cross walks or between parked cars, going 25 only makes sense between midnight and 7:00 am

  16. Heard the man was an elderly person, sadly, he passed away.
Video surveillance was taken from across the street at shopping center supermarket.

    1. Wasn’t an old guy who got hit so

  17. I do not know the specifics of this tragedy, but can we just admit it is everyone’s responsibility to obey the law and also look out for your own safety. So quick to blame someone else. Should drivers stop, of course, but you are a damned fool to presume they will. Cross anywhere at your own risk.

  18. Very sorry for this loss of life. While it goes without saying that drivers have a responsibility to respect speed limits , street signs and be alert and undistracted, the pedestrians need to understand that even if you are in the right and it is your right to cross the street , you will not win the battle with a heavy piece of metal. I see people at pedestrian crossings walking right into the path of incoming vehicles and I get mad because all it takes is a second for a tragedy to happen. On Saturday at intersection of RW Ave & Maple , a couple got almost hit by a speeding car that made a turn. The lady gave the car a finger and and yelled at it. How about look at all ways when trying to cross the sidewalk and make sure you have enough space to react if a crazy driver is around. Nobody is the king of the road. It is not worth risking your life over your right to cross the street.
