To the Bergen County Freeholders:

As you may be aware, many Ridgewood residents are opposed to bonding a parking garage in our Central Business District through the county.

A petition has been circulating widely around town to make this issue a referendum on the ballot of the May 10, 2016, election.

A large number of signatures has been obtained. These will be counted and validated shortly–but not bytomorrow.

We urge the Freeholders to refrain from acting on this matter until the referendum issue has been determined. We wish to handle our own project with internal funding.

Should a judge allow the referendum, any decision that you might make tomorrow would be nullified, and you would have wasted your time.

As a Ridgewood resident for 44 years and counting, I want only the best for my town. Self-funding of the parking garage would be far preferable to bringing in the county. I am also concerned about possible ramifications in the future.

Please consider removing from tomorrow’s meeting agenda the item regarding Ridgewood parking garage bond funding.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Marcia Ringel
Ridgewood

  1. What a moving letter. Too bad self funding will not be approved by the moral minority. Nice try though.

  2. Will not be approved without the financial scheme and renderings, damn straight. Why are they not furnishing the renderings/streetscape? I do believe they would bond if their questions were answered and time will tell. Will they be furnished?

BTW, we should all be appalled that the vocal majority would commit a single dollar without seeing so much as a picture. Shame on them!

  3. I haven’t felt so negatively about the word “majority” since I watched from the crowd as they guillotined the king and queen in 1793.

  4. Don’t get caught up by “Anon’s” comments. He’s one of those trolls that likes to throw out baseless barbs that turn out to be indefensible in the face of actual facts and data. You’ll rarely see a follow up post.

  5. Here’s a follow up. The garage is going up. It will be a big commuter draw and will bring new people in to the village in the new CBD housing that will be going up. Property values will increase and hopefully all of the people that are not happy about the change will sell and move away. Progress is a beautiful thing.

  6. look at the Manager she,s on the cell. That ‘s real good looking. what a joke from the top .

  7. Commuters do NOT shop in town. They get the hell home same as everyone else. I am guessing you don’t even live in Ridgewood.

  8. Looks like Aronsohn, bond-boy, Roberta are on their phones for sure, and maybe Fricke too. They were in the front row. How low class.

Anon with the dark glasses icon has been identified, we know who he is for a FACT FACT FACT. And what he spews is not FACTUAL. Ignore him

  9. 6.39. Please butt out as you clearly have no positive skin in the real game and pay zero taxes as a non resident agitator VOR schill

  10. Earlier text I meant to 6.16. NOT 6.39 james

  11. “Anon” at 2:23 and 6:16, presenting one conclusion of a contentious issue as inevitable is a standard marketing and political ploy intended to make people lose heart, not vote, and so on. Get over it–we are on to you. This will be over when it’s over and not sooner.

  12. My family operated a business at one of the stations along the NJ Transit Main Line for 25-years. And yes, 6:39 is correct, commuters jump in their cars and race home. They do not linger around the station or downtown area once they depart the train. What would you do after 8 hours at work and and another hour on the train?

  13. Hugging the cellphones like their lives depended on it

  14. Yes, Sedon, said in council meeting that when he worked in Staten Island,(before that Annonymous letter was written by someone in this wonderful community imbued with that special Ridgewoodian loving community feeling), at end of day he was eager to get home and never stopped for any kind of shopping or dining.

  15. “Anon” still talks a good but clueless game. Yes, they’re going to build a garage. They are. There are some very reasonable people however that think it should be a smaller one than members of the Council majority are trying to push through before they leave office. Not a very good reason to hurry. There are also some legitimate questions about whether we should fund it ourselves and not through the County. Let’s sort those questions out. Anxiously awaiting your next “liar liar pants on fire” post….

Agree 100%. While I don’t personally prefer a garage, I get that a majority of residents favor some sort of garage. The actual size and financing should have remained a council decision but by going around the two abstainers the Council majority made it an issue worthy of thousands of residents signing a petition.

  17. S. Frapz – Who works 8 hours anymore? (LOL) More like 9.5 – 10 hours + 3 hours of commuting.

You are very correct that no one lingers to shop . . . I run home to make dinner, do laundry, make lunches, help with homework, etc.

  18. 9am Why do you think thousands have signed the petition?

  19. 9.49. So right..their gig is up..they screwed their own pooch…literally..

  20. 9.49. Answer is..to right a massive wrong..to take back own local government ahead of a critical Spring election..to let the restauranteurs junta know their strategies have failed..arrogance…
